Main duties of the job
* The post holder will be responsible for the effective and efficient operational management of the department/ward; including budget control, clinical governance, staff development, and training.
* The post holder will be expected to provide professional leadership within the clinical area and provide direction and inspirational leadership to all members of the multi-disciplinary team.
* The post holder will be involved in the development of policies, protocols/guidelines, and patient information.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
* Lead the ward/departmental team and build successful links between key professionals to support and promote effective multi-disciplinary team working.
* Manage the department nursing staff, ensuring the patients receive high-quality clinical care and a good patient experience.
* Be wholly accountable for his/her practice in line with the NMC Code.
* Communicate effectively and efficiently and liaise with other members of the multi-disciplinary team.
* Act as a professional nurse leader and role model to the staff.
Person specification
Qualifications
* RN1/RN2/RN12 or RN Child Registered Nurse on the NMC register.
* Mentorship/teaching qualification.
* Management qualification or equivalent relevant experience.
Knowledge
* Up to date knowledge of current clinical and professional issues.
* An understanding of audit and research-based nursing practice.
Experience
* Proven experience in managing a ward; including management of rotas, competencies, resources, and staff.
* Experience of teaching/assessing/supervising others in a clinical setting.
Skills
* Able to manage team and individual performance.
* Good communication skills and ability to deal with sensitive information.
* Ability to organise and plan own time and that of junior staff and learners.
