The Centre for Trials Research at Cardiff University is a large, multinational community of researchers, professional services staff and students from a diverse range of backgrounds.

A new and exciting opportunity has arisen for a Registered Nurse to join this UKCRC-registered Centre as a Research Nurse managing and delivering a portfolio of clinical trials and research studies.
This position would suit a self-motivated individual with the ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team and liaise with multiple stakeholders across the NHS, academia and industry to see the successful delivery of commercial and non-commercial clinical studies within the clinical trials research arena. The post holder will be working on studies across primary and secondary care, which may include adults lacking capacity. Experience in clinical research including set up of clinical study protocols along with expert implementation and ongoing monitoring of protocol delivery is essential.
As a Research Nurse (grade 6), we are looking for someone currently registered with the NMC, educated to graduate level/ NVQ 4 or with equivalent professional experience. The successful candidate will be required to contribute to the management and delivery of studies within the Centre for Trials Research, including recently funded clinical trials in self-management interventions and in women's health. The successful candidate will have a good knowledge of good clinical practice and regulatory aspects of clinical research and will be able to work flexibly within these confines to deliver research studies as required.

This post is part-time (21 hours per week), open-ended, based at Heath Park and is available from 7th April 2025.
The majority of roles at Cardiff University are currently operating under “blended working” arrangements, with staff having the flexibility to work partly from home and partly from the University campus depending on specific business requirements. Discussions around these arrangements can take place after the successful candidate has been appointed.
Salary: £40,497 - £45,413 per annum, pro rata for hours worked (Grade 6).
Appointments to roles at Cardiff University are usually made at bottom of scale unless in exceptional circumstances.

Job Purpose
Support the Centre for Trials Research in providing clinical advice, guidance and support, and leading complex research projects within the area of trials research.
Duties And Responsibilities
Key Duties
* Provide professional advice and guidance on clinical trials and other studies procedures to internal and external customers (across academic, NHS and industry) that will have institute wide impacts, using judgement and creativity to suggest the most appropriate course of action where appropriate, and ensuring complex and conceptual issues are understood.
* Take responsibility for resolving issues independently relevant to the complex specialist nursing research requirements of clinical trials and other studies where they fall within set role objectives.
* Investigate and analyse specific issues within clinical trial research nursing, creating recommendation reports, supported by advances within clinical trials and other study designs.
* Ensure that the provision of clinical trials and other studies is delivered to the institution, proactively changing the delivery according to customer requirements.
* Establish relationships with key contacts to ensure role objectives are met, developing appropriate communication links with the University’s Schools/Directorates and outside bodies as required.
* Create specific working groups from colleagues across the University to achieve the Centre’s research objectives.
* Undertake trial specific training to deliver study protocols as required.
* Develop and deliver training within clinical trials and other studies.
* Undertake a variety of research nursing and administrative duties to support the centre.
* Instruct and guide other employees across the Centre where required and in relation to research nursing.
* Ensure that work is undertaken and documented in a regulatory compliant way and be prepared for regular audits and inspections, as well as contributing to the development of the quality management system for the area of trials.

Person Specification
Essential Criteria
Qualifications and Education
* Degree/NVQ 4 or equivalent experience with current registration with the NMC.
Knowledge, Skills And Experience
* Substantial experience of working within health research in the NHS.
* Able to demonstrate professional knowledge within health research in the NHS to give advice and guidance to internal and external customers.
* Proven experience of local set-up, implementation and monitoring of clinical trial protocols.
* Proven experience in developing new processes and procedures.
Customer Service, Communication and Team Working
* Ability to communicate conceptually detailed and complex information effectively and professionally with a wide range of people.
* Evidence of ability to explore customers’ needs and adapt the service accordingly to ensure a quality service is delivered.
Planning, Analysis and Problem solving
* Evidence of ability to solve expansive problems using initiative and creativity; identify and propose both practical and innovative solutions.
* Evidence of demonstrable knowledge of key advances within clinical trials research.
* Evidence of ability to undertake and deliver specific trial specific activities and projects and train and supervise short term trial specific project teams.
Desirable Criteria
* A commitment to high quality patient and public involvement.
* Postgraduate qualification or working towards one.
* Experience of working in a Higher Education environment.
* Fluency in Welsh, written and oral.
