Working as a key member of a specialised team, the Veterinary Surgeon / Vet will provide clinical care for breeding dogs, puppies, training dogs, and working guide dogs. As the Veterinary Surgeon / Vet your expertise will be central to the success of the service dogs, directly impacting the lives of the individuals with sight loss. This is a role that offers both purpose and collaboration, where your contributions truly make a difference. You will head up the clinical veterinary team and will be supported by a Senior Veterinary Nurse, Veterinary Nurse and Pharmacy Assistant, all working at the on-site practice facilities. DUTIES Your duties as the Veterinary Surgeon / Vet: Provide all clinical care needs to dog stock in the local area including but not limited to: Examination and diagnostic services utilising x-ray and ultrasound as necessary Treatment services for new or on-going conditions Surgical services at senior generalist level Assist with veterinary procedures for breeding dogs Monitor and promote positive welfare amongst puppies and other dog stock Ensure professional veterinary standards are maintained within the veterinary unit and pharmacy, adhering to all governance both externally and internally Provide telephone and on-line advice to staff and general practice vets Review externally sourced medical documents (e.g. x-rays and health reports) provided by general practice vets, and advise accordingly on health management for the dog Write up recommendations and care plans for dogs within your care, and support those being provided by general practice vets locally to them Establish and maintain cohesive and collaborative working relationships with Breeding Operations team, Dog Health and Wellbeing teams, customers and other relevant colleagues in the wider network Support the Chief Veterinary Lead in matters relating to dog health and care, providing subject matter expertise as requested to the organisation to grow and improve, meeting strategic and operational needs WORKING AT THE CHARITY Working at the Charity is much more than just a job.
