Job summary/Purpose
To provide structural engineering support at all stages of the development process, from initial viability advice to full design packages.
Review all aspect of value engineer viability and challenge the building design, assess and appraise consultant’s designs for suitability and to ensure the designs are the most cost effective compliant with legislation and practical.
The Structural Engineer will work closely with the Manufacturing Technical Director and the Preconstruction team to drive the standardisation and advise the wider group on all matters related to Timber frame and offer efficiency solutions to production and site installation.
Primary Responsibilities
Pre-construction
* Assess and validate structural design: line and wind loading and provide best practice and efficient timber frame solution.
* Provide engineering solution to non-Taylor Wimpey standard format.
* Work closely with Group Building Engineer to ensure timely design and RFI are closed out to Manufacturing design program, and to challenge inefficient design.
Design
* Work with the in-house Timber frame design team and advise on Engineering matters and alternative solutions.
* Ensure All Engineering function and changes are fully signed off by NHBC Timber frame certifier.
* Working closely with TD on continuous improvements and DFMA also maintain and manage the TWM standard details and factory details.
* Assist on production drawings checks to ensure designers are compliant with the ISO 9001 procedures and design code.
* Ownership and accountability as in house building engineer for TWM. Advise the design of the primary TF superstructure including roof, Joist, Stairs.
* Provide temporary works design and validation checks, to ensure site team has all necessary evidence as part of erection and safe working.
* Assist with factory production and site on any technical and design queries.
* Review Contractor Design and External Engineer design appraisal and validate the business expectation and efficiency.
* Review Timber frame Designer sequence method and validate the risk assessment under CDM.
Experience, Qualifications, Technical Requirements
* Min. 3-year experience as Chartered Engineer. (MIStructE)
* Previous work experience from a STA Assure gold design office and job running experience.
* IT/Computer literate
* Experience in AutoCAD
* Experience in Revit (advantage)
* Thorough understanding of technical and regulatory requirements
* Ability to interpret geotechnical and environmental reports and make suitable recommendations
* Thorough knowledge of assessment of ground conditions for foundation and sub- structure design
* Thorough knowledge of remediation techniques and methodology
* Ability to work to tight deadlines and prioritise
