WHAT TO EXPECT
This position resides in the Hardware Domain of the Digital Product Platform (DPP) Technical Centre within Product Engineering. Specifically, the role is a PCB (Printed Circuit Board) Design Engineer position as part of the Hardware Group reporting to the Product Owner.
The role of the PCB Design Engineer is to engage in the development of electronic products – in this case the development of PCB layouts, PCB component library, PCB footprints and component schematic symbols for use on electronic modules / ECUs. The role will deliver the product working closely with the Electronic Design Engineers, based on clear vision of the strategy defined by the Product Owner.
The purpose of this role is to provide technical PCB capability and undertake PCB footprint / layout design activities for the module / ECUs design, manufacturing and introduction of electronic modules / ECU’s for JLR programmes. The PCB Engineer must have an understanding of advanced electronic module development, PCB design and validation methodologies.
Key accountabilities and responsibilities:
* Design of PCBs for Electrical Modules / ECUs for automotive applications including PCB layout, design calculation and simulation.
* Creation and maintenance of PCB library components / footprints.
* Production of detailed design requirements, documentation and specifications for PCB development.
* Design and preparation for manufacturing readiness, volume production and validation.
* Support the creation and maintenance of PCB design rules, guidelines and constraints for use during the PCB design process.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
* Extensive experience of working as a PCB Design / component library engineer - within the Automotive, Aerospace or similar environment.
* Comprehensive experience in PCB layout and footprint generation from concept to high volume mass production.
* Component library creation and management (PCB footprints and device parameter capture).
* Experience in manufacturing test and access requirements at a PCB level.
* Have a good understanding of the following: Power supply topologies, interfacing to microcontrollers, power switching, motors, analogue design, digital circuits, high speed serial interfaces, EMC, stability analysis, vehicle network hardware.
