Project Quantity Surveyor (Project QS)
About the Role:
Our client is seeking a skilled and proactive Project Quantity Surveyor (Project QS) to join their dynamic team in London. In this role, you will take full responsibility for managing the cost control and financial management of construction projects from inception through to completion. You will work closely with clients, contractors, and internal teams to ensure that all projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
Key Responsibilities:
* Lead the cost management process for projects, including preparing detailed cost estimates, budgets, and financial reports.
* Oversee tendering processes, prepare tender documents, evaluate bids, and make recommendations.
* Ensure all procurement activities are carried out in line with client requirements and company procedures.
* Monitor and manage costs throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring any deviations from the budget are promptly addressed and mitigated.
* Prepare and submit interim valuations, and assess the contractor’s progress and variations.
* Negotiate and agree on variations and final accounts with contractors and clients.
* Conduct site visits to monitor the progress and quality of work while ensuring compliance with project costs and timelines.
* Liaise regularly with project teams, stakeholders, and clients to provide updates and resolve any issues that may arise.
* Review contracts and subcontracts, ensuring compliance with contractual obligations.
* Support the senior management team with project reporting and financial forecasting.
Key Requirements:
* A degree or relevant qualification in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related field.
* Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor, with a strong background in managing large-scale construction projects.
* In-depth knowledge of construction contracts, procurement processes, and cost management practices.
* Strong analytical, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
* Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word) and project management software (e.g., Procore, Aconex).
* Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with a range of stakeholders, including clients, contractors, and consultants.
* Strong organisational skills with a keen eye for detail.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Desirable Qualifications & Skills:
* Chartered status with RICS (Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors) or working towards it.
* Experience with JCT and NEC forms of contract.
* Previous experience managing projects in sectors such as commercial, residential, or infrastructure is beneficial.
* Knowledge of cost management and reporting software tools.
