What the Job Involves The role of Principal Auditor encompasses supporting the Head of Assurance and Audit Manager in delivering Internal Audit and Counter Fraud Plans. You will manage your own portfolio of varied tasks, including audit reviews and potentially fraud investigations and contract reviews. Reporting to senior management, you will plan, conduct, and complete multiple audit engagements, ensuring they are delivered in line with the Audit Plan. This includes drafting terms of reference for audit assignments, conducting follow-up reviews, and discussing findings with Heads of Service to establish actionable improvement plans. You will also be responsible for developing organizational controls, utilizing the latest technology to enhance service efficiency. Operating with minimum supervision, you may also act as a mentor to junior staff, fostering their professional development. You will be responsible for aligning audits with the Public Sector Internal Auditing Standards while ensuring compliance with the Council’s policies. The role requires good time management skills, adaptability, and the ability to build positive relationships with customers and partners, maintaining open channels of communication throughout audit engagements.
