For more information, visit www.TEGNA.com. 13News Now/WVEC, Tegna’s ABC affiliate in Norfolk, Virginia, is searching for a Senior Digital Content Producer to help lead the day-to-day production of news content across our website, mobile and streaming apps, and social media platforms. This is a senior position on our digital team, reporting to our Digital Director. The person in this role works alongside other digital producers to create and manage the content and audience experience on our digital platforms, but they also help lead the team in identifying content opportunities and prioritizing tasks throughout the day. The ideal candidate is a journalist at heart and a creative problem-solver with an eye for detail and an insatiable hunger for great content. It’s also equally important to have the qualities of a people-leader – someone who can be a digital ambassador in the newsroom, helping teach fellow journalists and encouraging audience-focused content decisions. Qualified candidates must be strong writers, first, with the ability to write and edit news stories quickly and accurately – and demonstrate that ability through a timed writing and copyediting test. They must also be extremely organized, communicative, and proactive, with the ability to juggle both day-to-day production work and some leadership tasks. This is a Monday-Friday 9a-6p position, however, work hours will flex to cover early and late shifts, as well as weekends and holidays, depending on staffing needs and the demands of the news cycle. Responsibilities : Tracks multiple streams of information to keep up with the daily news cycle Monitors trends and analytics to determine audience interest and inform editorial decisions Communicates effectively with teammates and the newsroom Helps the digital team identify, prioritize, and execute tasks Helps guide reporters, photojournalists, and other content creators in digital content needs Helps (and coaches others to) find story ideas, confirm info, research for facts and credibility Takes initiative in creating content (and delegating content creation) around key digital audience drivers, like breaking and trending news, weather, sports, and politics Takes a lead role in any advanced digital production/storytelling for special content Helps coordinate and manage digital projects and coverage plans Pitches in on digital desk workload: creates, packages, edits, and publishes digital content, clips videos from newscasts, creates/manages content on social media, sends push alerts and email newsletters, manages content curation across digital platforms, sets up livestreams and schedules programming for our streaming app, etc. Perform other tasks as required by supervisor Requirements : BA/BS in journalism, communications, or related field 3 to 5 years digital content production experience in a fast-paced news environment Ability to type at a speed of at least 60 wpm Nimble using computers and common computer programs, including basic keyboard shortcuts Excellent communication and organizational skills Ability to work under constant time pressure and meet deadlines Ability to calmly handle live, breaking news situations and rapidly changing coverage Strong news and editorial judgment, with a clear understanding of the tenets of professional journalism, traditional news values, and news writing fundamentals Strong knowledge of AP style, grammar, and copy editing basics Highly skilled in creating and packaging engaging, audience-driven content Experience using content management, photo and video-editing systems Deep knowledge of SEO best-practices A working knowledge of industry-standard best practices for the major social media platforms Experience creating a variety of social media content, including graphics and vertical video A basic understanding of how to interpret and use digital metrics to guide editorial decisions Benefits: TEGNA offers comprehensive benefits designed to safeguard the physical, mental and financial health of our employees and their families.
