Our client is a successful engineering business which prides itself on its employee development and care: Due to promotion they are looking to employ an experienced Health, Safety and Environmental (EHS) Officer to continue the previous incumbents good work.
The main function of the role can be summed up as ensuring the business remains compliant with all relevant legislation while providing training and guidance to the management and other employees on all matters relating to Environmental, Health and Safety.
EHS Officer - Role and Responsibilities - EHS / HSE / ISO 14001 / OHSAS 1800 / Health and Safety / QHSE / QHES / QESH
* Ensure the site EHS Objectives and plan are set up and followed.
* Maintain and develop EHS policies and procedures as required.
* Monitor and review site Environmental Aspects and Impacts.
* Organise or conduct internal and external EHS training requirements.
* Monitor compliance to EHS legislation and other requirements.
* Ensure site Risk Assessment register is kept up to date.
* Monitor waste and energy use for the site.
* Monitor KPIs set and ensure work is done to try and achieve them.
* Develop the companys EHS initiatives on site.
* Assist in the formulation of policies and safe systems of work appertaining to operations within the site.
* Identify hazards of materials, processes and, in conjunction with appropriate specialist advisors, recommend ways of eliminating them.
* Undertake integrated QEHS internal audits.
* Co-ordinate and monitor a programme of routine, monthly safety inspections.
* Co-ordinate and monitor the Behavioural Safety Observation Programme and analyse and communicate information to all personnel.
* Report monthly, quarterly and yearly KPIs
* Issue and monitor a programme of toolbox talks to be given by departmental management focusing on issues related to accident statistics and other topical EHS issues.
* Help investigate injuries, incidents, near misses and dangerous occurrences. Monitor accident reports, and ensure corrective/preventive measures are identified and implemented.
* Ensure data is available for EHS Committee meetings, management review, executive meetings and team briefs.
* Co-ordinate, raise and report progress of corrective action plans (CAPs) to interested parties.
* Ensure that Emergency, Fire Evacuation and Safety Procedures are adhered to on site, published, available and regularly reviewed, and co-ordinate emergency response team/1st aider activities.
* Advise and inform Managers and employees on environment, health and safety issues, changes in legislation, standards and Company Policy.
* Advise on safety aspects in the design and use of plant, machinery and equipment.
* Develop a positive EHS culture within the business.
EHS Officer - Skills and Abilities - EHS / HSE / ISO 14001 / OHSAS 1800 / Health and Safety / QHSE / QHES / QESH
* Working within a similar role within Engineering/Manufacturing
* Experience of the sourcing and provision of training
* Internal Auditing
* Qualified to NEBOSH Diploma Level
* Sound knowledge of the EHS legal framework
* Sound knowledge of ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001
* Detailed knowledge of safety management systems
* An engineering background
* Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
* Good influencing skills.
