This post is for a Trust Doctor to help cover gaps in the middle grade staffing due to a shortfall in registrar numbers. This is a full-time post with resident on-call. Neonatal cover is provided separately. The job will include working on the Children's Assessment Unit, participating in ward rounds, and providing cover for the in-patient wards. Supervision of more junior colleagues will be expected. There is no regular out-patient commitment in this post. The Consultants provide a consultant of the week service so close team working with both junior and senior colleagues will be required.
Main duties of the job
1. Supervise, monitor and assist the Foundation Doctors in the day-to-day management of in-patients.
2. Liaise between nurses, F1 and F2 Doctors (if applicable), patients, relatives, and senior medical staff.
3. Attend and participate in ward rounds as timetabled.
4. Take part in rostered out of normal hours emergency work when orientation is complete and competence assessed.
5. Complete discharge summaries and communicate with GPs and other clinical colleagues as required.
6. Study for higher examination and maintain continued professional development.
7. Attend educational and multidisciplinary sessions.
8. Undertake audit at various times throughout the rotations.
9. Teach medical students.
10. Attend induction in each hospital or new department.
11. Comply with all local policies including dress code, annual and study leave.
12. Proactively and positively contribute to the successful overall performance of the Trust.
13. Deliver excellent levels of customer service to all patients/visitors and staff at the Trust.
14. Develop effective ways of working and create strong partnerships and relationships with all stakeholders to support the implementation of the Government's policies on Health.
15. Proactively, meaningfully, and consistently demonstrate the Trust Values in everyday practice, decision making, and interactions with patients and colleagues.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* MB BS or equivalent
* PLAB if applicable
* MRCPCH Part 1a and Part 1b or equivalent
* Full MRCPCH or equivalent
Experience
* A minimum of 24 months experience at SHO (ST 1-3) or equivalent in Paediatrics/Paediatric Sub-Specialties.
* Previous experience on a Middle Grade rota or equivalent in paediatrics in the UK.
* APLS provider (or equivalent).
Additional criteria
* Accepts responsibility and is competent in the initial management of the spectrum of paediatric emergencies.
* Competent in practical skills required to function as a middle grade paediatrician.
* Knows own limitations.
* Evidence of understanding and application of knowledge.
* Understands principles of clinical governance and medical audit.
* Understanding and implementation of evidence-based practice.
* Evidence of involvement in audit.
