Position Overview: We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Account Manager to join the sales team at a prestigious structural steel mill. This is an exciting opportunity for a candidate with a background in steel or metal sales, especially with flat or long products, to manage and grow relationships with key customers in the structural and civil engineering sectors. The Account Manager will be responsible for identifying sales opportunities, providing expert technical advice, and supporting the execution of large, complex engineering projects across the UK. Key Responsibilities: • Sales and Account Management: • Manage a portfolio of existing clients in the structural steel market, ensuring customer satisfaction, repeat business, and long-term relationships. • Identify and pursue new sales opportunities within the structural steel, civil engineering, and construction sectors, including both public and private sector projects. • Develop and execute a strategic sales plan to increase market share and meet sales targets. • Provide tailored solutions and technical support to clients, ensuring the right steel products (flat and long) are specified for their projects. • Regularly meet with key clients, project managers, and engineers to discuss project specifications, timelines, and product requirements. • Product Knowledge and Technical Expertise: • Maintain a deep understanding of the structural steel products offered by the mill, including their application in large-scale civil engineering and construction projects. • Stay updated on industry trends, competitors, and emerging technologies within the steel manufacturing sector. • Work closely with the technical and production teams to ensure that customer requirements are met, including the quality, quantity, and delivery schedules of steel products. • Project Coordination: • Act as the primary point of contact between the mill and clients during the project lifecycle, from initial inquiry through to delivery and post-sale support. • Coordinate with the logistics and production teams to ensure timely and accurate delivery of steel products to projects across the UK. • Support clients with product specifications, technical drawings, and material take-offs, ensuring alignment with project needs. • Relationship Building and Networking: • Develop strong relationships with key decision-makers in the civil engineering, construction, and structural steel sectors, including engineers, architects, contractors, and project managers. • Represent the company at industry events, trade shows, and networking opportunities to promote the company’s products and capabilities. • Sales Reporting and Forecasting: • Track sales performance, report on key metrics, and provide regular updates to senior management on progress toward sales goals. • Forecast sales trends, project timelines, and potential obstacles, and develop strategies to address any challenges. Qualifications and Experience: Essential: - Proven experience in sales or account management within the steel, metal, industry, specifically with flat or long steel products. - Strong understanding of structural steel applications in civil engineering, construction, and large-scale infrastructure projects. - Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and project requirements. - Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and clients simultaneously, while maintaining attention to detail and customer satisfaction. - Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills. - Full UK driving license and willingness to travel as required. • Desirable: - A background in civil engineering or construction management is an advantage. - Previous experience with large-scale or high-value projects in the structural steel sector. - Knowledge of industry standards, regulations, and compliance issues related to steel products and construction projects.
