An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Innovia Films as a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer within our Engineering Department in Wigton, Cumbria.
Innovia Films are a leading global manufacturer of Biaxially Oriented Polypropylene (BOPP) films, supplying highly differentiated speciality products into the packaging, labels, tobacco overwrap and securities markets.
What is this role?
We are looking for a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join our Engineering Department at our Wigton Plant. Reporting into the Chief Engineer, the post holder will be responsible for the design and development of equipment within the Production Plant, in addition to the installation of new capital projects, and the development of the existing plant through the application of Engineering Science. You will work closely with a cross-functional team to improve existing assets and contribute to the development of new and innovative processes.
The responsibilities of the role will include:
* Responsibility of Project Management across the installation of new capital projects.
* Responsible for hands-on analysis, problem-solving, and development of all production processes, methods, and engineering specifications.
* Work closely with a cross-functional team to improve existing assets and contribute to the development of new and innovative processes.
* Using a collaborative, innovative and positively constructive approach to design ideas.
* Working in small teams across multi-functional disciplines.
* Providing technical documentation for all new installations, FDS’, schematics, commissioning etc.
* Review designs to ensure regulatory compliance. E.g. – CE Marking Machinery Safety and HAZID.
* Act as an escalation point for problem solving for specialist queries, from Production and Maintenance Engineering.
* Assist and mentor fellow team members.
* Work in line with company policies, procedures, and safe systems of work.
Skills will you need?
As the successful candidate, you will need to possess a solid understanding of mechanical systems and have an awareness of electrical systems. Industrial experience is required for this role and will possess the relevant education to support your experience. For this position, we are seeking a candidate who is qualified to HND level, BEng or MEng qualification.
The successful candidate should be proficient with the use of Auto CAD and either be working towards or aspiring to work towards Chartered status. They should also be an excellent problem solver, possess a meticulous attention to detail and be able to demonstrate strong communication and collaboration skills.

What are we offering in return?
The salary for this role will be circa £55,000 per annum, depending on experience.
