About the role
We are recruiting for a Head of Technical Services (UCL East) to join our team until 31st July. This role is available as an internal secondment and is therefore open for applications to internal staff only.
Reporting to the Director of Operations for UCL East, the Head of Technical Services will play a pivotal role in managing and enhancing our innovative shared research and teaching facilities, designed to support interdisciplinary collaboration and optimise the use of space and resources. This role involves overseeing the shared specialist laboratories and other facilities managed by the team at UCL East, as well as line managing the technical teams, overseeing budgets, and ensuring health and safety compliance.
The successful candidate will act as a key liaison between technical teams and building management, driving a collaborative approach across facilities to share expertise, equipment, and best practices. They will champion professional development for technical staff on campus, lead the transition of temporary laboratories to the new campus, and contribute to planning for future UCL East developments, working closely with the senior team.
About you
To be successful in this role you will need to have significant experience managing technical environments, ideally within a science or engineering laboratory setting, backed by relevant qualifications or practical expertise.
With a strong understanding of regulatory standards, especially health and safety, and insight into the diverse technical needs of specialist facilities, you’re adept at strategic planning and driving change.
