My client in the Pickering area require x 2 Experienced Mechanical Engineers.
Job purpose: To provide engineering design and support functions and to take the technical discipline lead on design projects, under instruction of the Lead Engineer or Project Engineer.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Manage design projects from initial concept/enquiry through detailed design to manufacturing handover.
2. Provide design input on projects, using the technical competencies listed below.
3. Generation of ideas for developments and new products.
4. Be responsible for small projects or sub-sections of larger projects.
5. Produce engineering designs, specifications and documentation to ISO 9001.
6. Assist in the preparation of operating and maintenance manuals.
7. Offsite engineering support for new products.
8. Assist sales and marketing in the preparation of quotes and proposals.
9. Provide customer support.
10. Assist in the training of customer operating personnel.
11. Provide technical support to the production, logistics and integration departments.
12. Work within the requirements of company procedures and national/international regulations.
13. Work within the timescales and budgets set by the company.
14. Instruct, train and mentor subordinate engineering staff.
15. Other activities as directed by the Engineering Manager.
Accountabilities:
1. Provide Mechanical Engineering leadership and supervision.
2. Ensure the suitability of the engineering aspects of company products for their function.
3. Prompt replies to production, logistical and technical support questions.
4. Provide design input on all projects as required, within the timescales set by the company.
Education/Qualifications (essential):
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related/equivalent subject (lesser qualifications coupled with suitable design experience may be considered in exceptional circumstances).
Education/Qualifications (desirable):
CEng status.
Technical Competencies (essential):
1. Structural analysis, scoping calculations and hand calculations.
2. Finite Element Analysis using Ansys and/or SolidWorks Simulation.
3. Mechanisms, kinematics and power transmission.
4. Good knowledge of manufacturing techniques, anodising, welding, heat treatment, painting, additive, machining, cutting, folding and NDT requirements.
5. Good theoretical understanding of material science for subsea use including galvanic and other corrosion effects.
6. Oil, gas and water hydraulics, including sealing systems, e.g. O-rings, seals, hydraulic fittings etc.
7. Assembly methods and maintenance.
8. Inspection, testing and certification requirements.
9. Ergonomics.
10. Completing and checking designs and documentation.
11. Approving designs and documentation.
12. Tolerancing, limits and fits.
13. Drawing layout and symbols.

Experience (essential):
Engineering design environment, six years minimum.
Experience (desirable):
Engineering shop floor experience.
Offshore experience.
Design of ROV systems and associated equipment.
