Head of SHE Glasgow What you will be doing: An opportunity has arisen for a Head of SHE to join the team at Galliford Try. As Head of SHE, you will be a member of the JV senior leadership team and will lead on all health, safety, and environmental aspects. You will have overall accountability for developing and executing the HS&E strategy and systems across the JV to ensure that the delivery of our operations meets exemplary safety, health, and environmental standards. The Head of SHE is a critical role in driving improvement and consistency in performance, ensuring compliance with management systems, and driving continual improvement initiatives. You will sit as part of our wider HS&E team, reporting to the Regional HS&E Manager and will have opportunity to influence the overall HS&E strategy for our Environment business and the wider group. This position also line manages the JV HS&E team consisting of the HSE Operational Lead, Environmental Manager, HS&E Advisors, Environmental Advisors, and a SHE Data Analyst. Key Accountabilities: Foster and support an inclusive, open, transparent, and collaborative environment to develop our HS&E culture, maturity, and behaviours to deliver HS&E excellence. Lead, manage and assure our regional HS&E strategy to drive continual improvement addressing short-, medium-, and long-term strategic growth and learning. This will be achieved through collaboration with others in the leadership team and other key stakeholders. Proactively drive and support Scottish Water in partnering on initiatives, working groups, participation in Heads of Safety meetings, and take a leading in the development of cross programme HSE guidance. This is a client facing role, so client management experience is vital. Engage and influence internal and external key stakeholders, including client, supply chain partners, regulatory authorities, industry bodies, and colleagues, through the plan, prepare and delivery of project lifecycle. Proactively drive and promote our behavioural programme; ‘Challenging Beliefs, Affecting Behaviours’, through site visits and strategic planning meetings. Lead, manage and assure our HS&E management system, taking account of client requirements. This will include designing policies that align with our overall strategy and driving efficiency through our processes and standards. Lead, manage, assure, and nurture an implementation strategy for HS&E initiatives. Lead, manage and develop the regional HS&E function, inspiring and nurturing growth, learning, and support as individuals while at the same time fostering continual learning and improvement of business operations to provide excellent customer service. Develop, implement, and report on regional HS&E strategy and operational performance using internal and external metrics. Delivers regional strategic review on performance and drives strategic direction. Drive a culture of hazard elimination within our teams (pre-contract, engineering, and operations) using the hierarchy of controls model. Deliver regional continual improvement of practice to unlock gains in HS&E performance and mitigate risk that could occur through HS&E-related issues. About You: Aware of individual health, safety, and environmental responsibilities and adheres to company health, safety, and environmental policies and procedures. Excellent communicator, written and verbal; ability to engage effectively through all facets and disciplines within and out-with the organisation; from Grassroots to Director-level. Proven experience and strength in understanding transforming cultures and organisational development. Thrives in complex, dynamic, working environments and relationships. Track record in applying restless curiosity to create positive outcomes in similar environments. Highly collaborative and outstanding relationship building capacity, with strong communication, negotiating, engaging, and influencing skills – breaks-down silos, and supports the senior leadership team in fostering a one-team approach across a complex organisation. Able to evidence a well-structured, systematic approach to identify and analyse problems, understand risks, and implement appropriate solutions. Ideally experienced in leading a similar sized HS&E function in either infrastructure, water, or similar regulated markets. Proven in developing and delivering a successful HS&E strategy autonomously based on your experience and technical knowledge of HS&E management, systems, risks, and legal frameworks. Experienced in leading and coaching a team to achieve high-performance outcomes. Experienced in producing and delivering learning and development programmes. Experienced in delivering HS&E performance in project lifecycle environment. Knowledge of data analytics and reporting systems. Proven at delivering results and meeting HS&E, financial and operational KPIs. ESSENTIAL Relevant HS&E experience in a similar industry operating at a senior level. Client relationship management experience. NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent in OHS. Full driving licence and willingness to travel across projects / contracts in region.
