Role: Head of Engineering – SKYNET Location: Bristol, 3 days onsite 2 from home Duration: 6-month contract Rate: £750 - £1500 PD Overview The purpose of the role is to lead and manage the Skynet SDW Engineering and Operational Teams defining its top-level strategy (resource / capability) and providing effective direction and guidance. You will be leading the delivery of engineering activity on the Skynet 6 Service Delivery Wrap (SDW) programme, including providing leadership to the engineering team to deliver a range of new and modified subsystems, end to end services covering a range of Military and Commercial technologies and software. Reporting to the SDW Programme Director, you'll also be part of a multi-million-pound programme of technology change. Responsibilities Define the strategy of the SKYNET SDW Engineering Team, while managing resources in a safe, secure, and cost-efficient manner, and ensuring consistency with the broader Engineering, Operations, and Business Unit strategies. Manage the capacity of competent resources to meet agreed technical programme, operational and site deliverables. Ensures that SKYNET SDW Engineering Team performance metrics, procedures, processes, and systems are developed, implemented and of a quality that delivers against our Lines of Business requirements. Support and mentor members within the SKYNET SDW Engineering and Operational Team in the production of solutions and their career progression. Including undertaking the role of a professional mentor. Skillset Significant relevant (MilSatCom) proven ability and subject matter expertise. Proven ability of leading and managing multi-disciplinary technical teams and programmes with demonstrable capability of Project Delivery on large and/or complex engineering Projects. Leading transformation and change. Proven track record of driving delivery, performance, and continuous improvement. Demonstrates financial and commercial awareness, management of budgets, and improvements. Understanding of Operational Management, and an appreciation of Regulation, Legislation, Control of Works to ensure correct provision of resource to support Safe and Secure Operations. Problem solving capability and the ability to simplify, prioritise, and resolve issues, using data as well as good judgement. Able to communicate complex concepts and technologies, clearly and digestibly, to non-specialists, from the most junior colleague to the most senior Customer.
