We are looking for a dedicated Clinic Support Worker to join our team. In this role, you will work to support clinicians in delivering high-quality care to patients with cancer.
Your responsibilities will include assisting with patient observations, preparing patients for examinations, and ensuring smooth communication between various departments such as Radiology, Pharmacy, and Oncology. You will also provide emotional and practical support to patients during their treatment journey. Main duties of the job
* Provide a service tailored to meet the needs of individual patients.
* Ensure that patients understand their follow-up arrangements and explain the timing of any investigations requested by the clinician.
* Meet with the team weekly to discuss clinic requirements for the forthcoming week and liaise with colleagues daily to ensure all clinics are covered.
* Measure and record patient height and weight.
* Bring up results of investigations during clinics as required.
* Assist patients in preparing for clinical examinations while maintaining privacy and dignity.
* Ensure that all necessary paperwork is completed correctly following a decision to treat.
* Discuss transport requirements with patients and inquire about their preferred time of day for treatment.
* Demonstrate workplace routines to new or less experienced employees.
The Cancer Services Directorate covers various units and services, including Ricky Grant Day Unit, Turner Ward, Haematology, Medical Oncology, Specialist Palliative Care, End of Life Education Team, and Lymphoedema Services.
Non-Surgical Cancer Services teams play a critical role in delivering effective and efficient patient care.
Person specification
Qualifications and training
* Good standard of education / GCSE Maths and English or Equivalent.
* NVQ in Care Level Two.
* Experience in the healthcare environment with basic patient care skills.
* Ability to undertake Venepuncture training (may be done on appointment).
* Able to take ECGs.
Knowledge and experience
* Approachable, supportive, and flexible.
* Able to work as part of a team.
* Knowledge of hospital systems - IHCS, Cyberlab, Ultragenda, InSight Pacs, Cris, Clinical Portal Infoflex.
* Basic understanding of Oncology, including diseases treated and treatment options.
* Knowledge of timing for various pre-appointment investigations.
* Familiar with the Cancer Support Team and individuals’ roles.
Specific Skills
* Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team.
* Ability to support patients/carers in distressing circumstances.
