A secondment opportunity is available for a Civil Design Engineer based at Bristol, for a period of up to 12 months, subject to review. The Engineering Design Team prepare electrical, protection/control, mechanical and civil designs for schemes to construct, extend or modify electricity substations energised at up to 132,000 volts. The team assists network design colleagues with the assessment of substation options and develops selected schemes, from a broad engineering brief into a fully specified build package for delivery via internal and external construction teams. The team comprises 80 design staff, primarily based at offices in Tipton, Castle Donington, Bristol and Cardiff. It handles in excess of 500 active design commissions at any time ranging in capital value from £50k to £10m. As part of our hybrid working approach this role offers a mix of office and home working (3 days in the office). Hybrid working can only be considered once your initial training is complete and subject to business need. Evidence of your qualifications will be required prior to appointment. Depending on experience, you may initially be appointed at a lower salary until all relevant training is complete. Main Responsibilities We are seeking to recruit a Civil Design Engineer with experience/background within in the following areas:- The detailed design of civil engineering features, primarily substation buildings, foundations, structures, roads and drainage Preparation of detailed engineering drawings in an AutoCAD environment. Preparation of specifications for tender and construction purposes. Discharging the duties of a ‘Designer’ under the Construction Design and Management (CDM) regulations Identifying, evaluating and clearly communicating the substation design merits/ demerits of alternative scheme variants/options Ensuring compliance of civil design output with NGED policy Assisting with the technical development of junior team members The Ideal Candidate Candidates should be qualified to HNC level, or above in an appropriate civil engineering discipline. Applicants should have experience in the use of AutoCAD. Good communication skills and the ability to manage multiple diverse projects simultaneously as part of a team are essential.
