Role overview
The Director of Media and Partnerships is a critical leadership role within Ipsos, responsible for driving our media strategy and public relations agenda, building senior high profile journalist relationships and developing strategic partnerships to amplify our reach with key target audiences.
This role requires a deep understanding of the media landscape, a proven ability to cultivate and manage journalist relationships and partnerships, and a passion for delivering results.
Ipsos UK offers a hybrid working environment, 3 days in the office and working the rest from home.
What will I be doing?
Media Strategy Development and Execution:
* Developing and implementing a comprehensive media strategy aligned with the organisation's overall marketing and communications goals.
* Driving the creation of high-quality PR campaigns that promote Ipsos’ insights and capabilities.
* Managing media budgets effectively and establishing key KPIs.
* Tracking and analysing key metrics, reporting on performance and making data-driven adjustments as needed.
* Staying abreast of emerging media trends, adapting strategies to leverage new opportunities.
Press Office Management:
* Overall responsibility for all press office activities, including crisis communications, reputation management and proactive media relations.
* Overseeing our proactive weekly polling to drive impact across print, online and broadcast media.
* Managing the press agency, aligning resource to drive efficiencies and maximise ROI.
* Positioning Ipsos as a thought leader in the market research industry by securing speaking engagements, media appearances, and other opportunities to showcase our spokespeople’s expertise.
Partnership Development and Management:
* Identifying, cultivating, and managing earned strategic partnerships with media outlets, industry influencers, related organisations, and other potential collaborators.
* Negotiating earned partnership agreements, ensuring beneficial outcomes for Ipsos.
* Developing joint initiatives and co-marketing opportunities to expand reach and brand awareness.
Leadership and Mentorship:
* Leading a small team of PR and social media professionals, providing guidance, support and development opportunities.
* Mentoring and partnering with marcomms colleagues to develop their capabilities, particularly with trade relationships.
* Offering advice to research colleagues on how to develop compelling media hooks from research.
* Acting as an in-house expert for research teams working with clients who have communications objectives for their programmes.
* Developing and diversifying our pool of spokespeople through mentorship and media training.
* Fostering a collaborative and results-oriented team environment.
Relationship Building:
* Forging and strengthening relationships with broadcast, national and trade journalists, identifying strategic opportunities to drive media mentions, optimise AVE (Advertising Value Equivalent), to ultimately win Share of Voice.
* Building and maintaining strong relationships with key internal stakeholders, including marketing and research teams.
* Networking to build new relationships with potential partners.
What do I need to bring with me?
* Qualification in marketing, communications, journalism, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
* Extensive experience in media relations/public relations.
* Proven track record of developing and executing successful media strategies and building strong partnerships in a B2B environment.
* A network of established media relationships across political and social affairs.
* Significant experience operating in large, matrixed organisations.
* Experience in crisis communications and reputation management.
* Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
* Strong leadership, team management, and mentorship abilities.
* Ability to manage budgets effectively and track campaign performance.
* Strategic thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
* A solid understanding of research and its application in driving media coverage.
