An exciting opportunity has arisen for a band 5 registered nurse to join our Dynamic Team to support the IV antibiotic service. Outpatient Parenteral Antimicrobial Therapy (OPAT) is a flexible service model that enables early discharge and/or admission avoidance for patients that require intravenous (IV) therapy in their own home or clinic.
Main duties of the job
1. Administer prescribed intravenous antibiotics as per trust policy, including inspection of the venous access site prior to administration.
2. Acquire and maintain the skills and competencies to manage patient's OPAT clinical care and vascular access.
3. Ensure any blood tests are collected as and when required.
4. Liaise with relevant teams to ensure adequate supply of antimicrobials are available to meet patient requirements.
5. Assess and monitor patient's condition and feedback to MDT.
6. Recognise and escalate any issues or concerns around the patient's condition within the community, utilising specialist support from specialist clinicians in community services where necessary (i.e. Unscheduled care team, CRT GP, Frailty ACPs).

Education and Qualifications
* NMC Registered Nurse
* Evidence of continued professional development
Occupational Experience
* Competent in the administration of IV antibiotics
* Competent in cannulation
* 2 years post-registration experience in acute or community setting
