Much of this research involves molecular analysis of human tissues and the Faculty of Medicine Tissue Bank (FoMTB) plays a central role in this work.
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and highly organised Manager to oversee the operation, governance, and development of FoMTB. This role is pivotal in ensuring the collection, processing, storage, and distribution of high-quality biospecimens for cutting-edge research while maintaining compliance with ethical and regulatory standards. The FoMTB critically underpins a large number of research studies within the Experimental Cancer Medicine Centre (ECMC), Clinical Trials Unit (CTU), and wider Faculty, as well as regional and national research studies, currently holding more than 300,000 samples.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Oversee the daily management of the tissue bank, ensuring all activities comply with HTA, GDPR, and ethical guidelines.
2. Coordinate the collection, processing, storage, and distribution of biological samples.
3. Develop and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) and ensure quality control measures are in place.
4. Manage ethical approvals and liaise with regulatory bodies to maintain compliance.
5. Work closely with researchers, clinicians, and external partners to facilitate access to biospecimens.
6. Ensure accurate record-keeping using tissue bank databases and oversee sample tracking.
7. Provide training and supervision to technical staff, ensuring adherence to best practices.
8. Contribute to grant applications and funding proposals to support the sustainability of the tissue bank.
We are looking for a candidate with:
1. A degree (or higher) in biomedical sciences, molecular biology, pathology, or a related field.
2. Previous experience in biobanking, laboratory management, or tissue processing.
3. A strong understanding of ethical, legal, and regulatory requirements related to human tissue storage and use.
4. Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and leadership skills.
5. Experience in managing databases and ensuring data integrity.
