Job Title: Pre-Registration Pharmacy Technician
Hours per week: 37.5 hours per week (Rotational Weekend Working, Bank Holiday & Late Nights)
Perm/Fixed Term: 24 months (March 2025 - February 2027)
The salary for this training post is £20,379 - £21,835 (for the 1st year, the salary will be 70% of a Band 4, and for the 2nd year it will be 75% of a Band 4) in line with NHS AfC pay scale.

Main duties of the job
This is a full time -fixed term contract for 2 years. The training opportunity is an advanced apprenticeship leading to Level 3 Diploma (QCF) in Pharmaceutical Sciences plus Level 3 NVQ Diploma (QCF) in Pharmacy Service Skills which provides eligibility to register as a pharmacy technician with the GPhC.
Normal working hours are 37.5hours per week with rotational weekend, late night and bank holiday working. Subject to change.
You will be required to attend 1 day's training off site per week at BMET Matthew Boulton college (day to be confirmed) in order to meet the requirements for this training post.
The post holder will rotate through various areas of pharmacy including inpatient and outpatient dispensing, goods receipt, ward stock distribution and Medicines Management, Final Accuracy Checking. You will be offered a variety of experiences and training.

Job responsibilities
* Attend a two year course with one day per week release to college (BMET) to undertake studies to complete the Level 3 Diploma in Pharmaceutical Sciences and a certificate in functional skills at level 2 (if required).
* Complete Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Pharmacy Service Skills (QCF) by gathering a portfolio of evidence to demonstrate competence.
* Participate in quarterly appraisals and personal reviews and work to achieve set objectives.
* Develop professional and pharmaceutical skills through participation in the Trusts pharmacy technician rotation programme.
* Undertake study in own time when necessary.
* Be aware and work within departmental procedures and policies, accepted standards of practice and relevant legislation (E.g. Health and Safety, Medicine Act).
* Dispensary.
* Contribute to the provision of a dispensary service to inpatients and outpatients using the pharmacy computer systems for stock control and labelling including: -
* Maintain satisfactory stock levels, storage and turnover of medicines to ensure the quality of medicines are maintained.
* Identify actual and potential problems with reference to other staff as necessary.
* Complete and maintain accurate records where appropriate.
* Prepare labels and dispense medicines for patients.
* Issue medicines to patients, including appropriate information.
* Using communication skills to receive enquiries and other. appropriate information from healthcare professionals, patients and members of the public.

Experience and Knowledge

Qualification and Professional
* GCSE's: Math's C, English and Science(at C or above) and 3 other subjects at a minimum of grade C
* Pharmacy Services QCF Level 2 or equivalent with 12 months current experience and hold a functional skills level 2 qualification (or equivalent) in Maths and English.
* Three 'A' levels, one of which is a relevant science subject and Maths C (GCSE or equivalent).
* Degree in science or humanities and Maths C (GCSE or equivalent).
