We are privileged to be working with Ngā Papatipu Rūnanga, stakeholders, and our wider community to protect our environment, including water, land, and air through regulation and planning. As a Regional Council we're responsible for flood protection, public transport, civil defence, and more.
Kōrero mō te Tūranga | About the Role: This role will support the maintenance of flood protection and drainage works based at our Ashburton depot and working along the rivers on the Selwyn to the Hinds and throughout Mid Canterbury. The role is varied and involves working in local rivers and surrounding areas to establish and maintain river protection, tree plantings and structures, noxious weed control, tree felling and clearance.
You'll use 4WD vehicles, tractors, chainsaws, spray equipment and other light machinery, so experience is desirable; however, full training is provided. You'll work with other team members and contractors, alongside bulldozers, excavators, dump trucks, skidders, etc.
Hours of work will typically be Monday to Friday, 8.5 hours per day. You'll be required to be available for work during emergency events. Environment Canterbury is Living wage accredited.
Mōu │ About You: To be suited to this role you’ll have a strong environmental focus in everything that you do, and good knowledge of health and safety. You’ll be able to work independently and unsupervised whilst producing a high standard of work within a team environment.
You’ll have good communication skills as you will occasionally be dealing with people from all over our community.
A full, class 1 driver licence is essential, and this role requires a medical check prior to an offer of employment due to the physical nature of the job.
Our values underpin everything we do. We understand and embrace a diverse workforce; this diversity will enable us to better serve our people, our community, and our greatest taonga, the environment. We value everyone’s contribution, diverse thinking, and skills.
We're on a journey to become a treaty partner of excellence, including incorporating te ao Māori into our work. We offer supportive opportunities to develop capability in this area and encourage our people to use kaupapa Māori, mātauranga Māori, and te reo Māori in our daily work. We welcome you with an open heart & mind, wherever you are on your personal te ao Māori journey.
