MDH Recruitment is currently seeking a Crane Operator/Shunter to join our clients transport operations team in North Lanarkshire. This mixed role will combine crane operation and shunting duties, providing a great variety of tasks. You must have a valid Class 1 HGV license, as well as experience or the willingness to operate cranes and undertake transport-related duties as part of this mixed role. Location: Coatbridge, North Lanarkshire Job Type: Temp to Perm Salary: £15.00 per hour Monday to Friday (Days) £17.00 per hour Monday to Friday (Nights) £19.00 per hour Weekends Hours: This role operates on a 3-week rotating shift pattern over 7 days, with 5 shifts per week. Dayshift (6am-9am) Backshift (12pm-2pm), Nightshift (6pm-10pm). Overtime and flexibility available Key Responsibilities: Crane Operator Duties: Operate cranes to lift, move, and position heavy materials and equipment. Ensure all lifting operations are carried out safely and in accordance with established procedures and regulations. Inspect crane equipment before each use to ensure it is in proper working condition. Safely rig loads for lifting and ensure proper attachment to the crane. Communicate with ground personnel to ensure safe movement of materials. Follow all safety guidelines and protocols to prevent accidents or injuries. Maintain accurate records of daily crane operations, including pre-shift inspections, maintenance logs, and incident reports. Shunter Duties: Perform vehicle checks before each shift. Log any faults and report them to the Line Manager. Coupling and uncoupling containers for transport. Shunt containers in the yard and move vehicles between the yard and depot as needed. Communicate with ground staff, dispatchers, and other personnel to ensure smooth, safe operations. Operate at low speeds and manoeuvre vehicles safely within the yard. Experience & Requirements: Previous experience operating cranes in the plant industry is beneficial, but full training will be provided. Experience in shunting, particularly with Class 1 vehicles, is an advantage but training (including Terberg training) will be offered. Strong knowledge of materials handling procedures and plant operations. Ability to read and interpret blueprints and lifting plans. Mechanical knowledge to perform basic maintenance and troubleshooting on crane equipment. Must have a Valid Class 1 HGV UK Driving License (required for shunting role). Must have a Valid CPC card and Digital Tachograph card. Maximum of 6 points on your license, with no DD, DR, or CD endorsements (for insurance purposes).
