Training & Supervision To lead, develop and maintain the delivery of all grades of pharmacy technical staff training Ensure training is provided for all pharmacy technical staff including new and existing staff. Ensure training is provided for staff rotating into the unit and visiting students. Be a CPD facilitator and encourage and help registered staff to take part in continuing professional development Act as an A1 National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) Assessor to review work performance of students and Assistant Technical Officers and ensure standardisation of NVQ units Act as Educational Supervisor for Pre and In-Process Checking (PIPC) national checking accreditation scheme. Motivate, manage and support staff undergoing training Agree staff training objectives with senior staff and managers Advise senior managers on pharmacy technical staff induction and training issues Agree competencies for pharmacy technical staff with appropriate managers Manage and assess pre-registration pharmacy technicians and science manufacturing technicians for NVQ level 3 qualifications leading to registration with their professional body and assist them in gaining their qualification using a range of education methods. Manage and assess senior pharmacy assistants and pharmacy assistants for NVQ level 2 qualifications (pharmacy services or science manufacturing process operative) and assist them in gaining their qualification Responsible for training, mentoring, supervising and countersigning trainee NVQ assessors who are working towards their A1 qualification. Hold regular NVQ Assessor standardisation meetings to ensure all assessors follow latest guidelines and best practice and develop the team of assessors for future requirements Lead and participate in competency assessing pharmacy assistants according to in-house standards. Attend training courses to ensure skills, knowledge and practice are current and recommend such courses to other staff. Produce departmental induction paperwork used by all new starters. Produce material for assessing competencies for technical staff group. This includes exams for national accreditation courses. e.g. PIPC/PAAP/ACPT Co-ordinate and ensure statutory and mandatory training is undertaken by all pharmacy technical staff. To monitor the validation status of all production staff to ensure that all routine validation procedures are organised. Tact and persuasive skills are required when advising staff of corrective action needed following any deficits in competency assessments Organisation, Leadership and Management To play an active role in rota planning to ensure training issues are being addressed Lead and manage training and development of new and existing technical staff throughout the pharmacy manufacturing unit Responsible of organising and overseeing induction programme for new technical staff Assist in organising time tables for vacation placement and other students Co-ordinate the assessments/exams of candidates for relevant training courses and accreditations Co-ordinate regular training sessions for all technical staff Manage all Assessors and Educational Supervisors. Communicate changes and development. Organise regular meeting for updates and standardisation Interview as part of recruitment and selection processes as required by the Production Manager To participate in appraising members of the team Service Delivery Aseptically prepare products within a strictly controlled environment following validated methods and standard operating procedures cytotoxic intravenous additives (including trial material and intrathecal injections) adult parenteral nutrition (PN) other aseptic products made under the section 10 exemption of the Medicines Act Demonstrate and maintain aseptic competence by successfully completing broth validation every 3 months To receive cytotoxic prescriptions, and help to co-ordinate workload outside the clean room involving communication with clinical oncology pharmacy and nursing staff in chemotherapy clinic. Timely provision of patient treatment through prioritisation To generate worksheets & labels and assemble raw materials for all aseptically prepared products. Providing additional checks on syringe volumes for cytotoxic and PN products Perform pre-process checks on ingredients and worksheets To perform pre and in-process checks in clean rooms Undertake the final check / release of products prepared under section 10 exemption of the Medicines Act 1968 under the supervision of the Accountable Pharmacist Undertake checking of outsourced dispensed items To undertake the role of clean room supervisor as required Promote Good Manufacturing Practice so to ensure the provision of a safe effective and efficient service is maintained Participate in clinical trials To print paperwork of Adult PN, liaising with the nutrition team pharmacist, and perform paperwork checks To undertake dispensing and labelling of outsourced drugs To be able to perform any other more junior job role as required ensuring continuity of service. Handle complex, sensitive information e.g. patient data including diagnosis and treatment regimens, in a confidential, professional manner with efficiency, tact and diplomacy, ensuring compliance with data protection legislation and information governance.
