General Information: Adjunct faculty teaching is limited to a maximum of 8 credit hours in the summer semester, 12 credit hours in the fall semester, and 12 credit hours in the spring semester. These limits are for total number of credit hours taught in the Virginia’s Community Colleges (VCCS). Additional restrictions may apply depending upon other positions occupied within VCCS.
Responsibilities: The Division of Engineering, Business, and Public Services at Brightpoint Community College augments full-time teaching faculty with qualified part-time instructors to enhance the student learning process. We currently seek qualified instructors for both manual and CNC operation. Manual Instructors will teach all aspects of machining including usage of conventional lathes and mills, surface grinding, cylindrical grinding, inspection procedures, and blueprint reading. Involves classroom and laboratory instruction.
CNC Instructors will teach all CNC machine tool setup and operation, G-code programming by hand, and off-line programming with CAM package. Involves classroom and laboratory instruction.
Minimum Qualifications:
Required Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent, machinist journeyman certificate, and ten years of experience in the machining field. Must have an understanding of common threads, tools, speeds and feeds, work-holding and shop practices. Competency in shop math including trigonometry and application of machine shop formulas is a must. Ability to use instructional technologies. Excellent interpersonal and oral and written communications skills. Successful completion and passing of a criminal background check is required.
Additional Considerations: Associate degree in the teaching field and prior teaching experience at the postsecondary level.
Preferred Qualifications:
