Job Introduction
The role of the Commissioning Director is to provide technical oversight and management of the Commissioning and SAP teams. They will ensure that all Commissioning engineers complete their plans and subsequent testing to the correct standard. They will assist in developing Commissioning strategy, process and standards to ensure we meet both the customer and legislative requirements.
They will assist Pre-Construction Staff in understanding and bidding works from a technical perspective and have a thorough understanding of outage planning.
Main Responsibilities
1. Scheduling and coordinating commissioning visits with a variety of clients.
2. Reviewing the technical documentation of existing client systems and plant to understand their functions and purpose.
3. Creating and proposing test procedures that ensure the proper working of equipment and plant.
4. Providing documentation to inform the suggested test procedures, ITP, RAMS & commissioning programme.
5. Supervising and carrying out appropriate testing and commissioning of a client’s systems and equipment.
6. Compiling data from these tests and producing evidence to prove that equipment passes mandatory assessments and meets regulation requirements.
7. Troubleshooting any existing problems or limitations of the existing equipment, machinery and systems that a client has.
8. Working with other engineers or site staff to carry out tests and repairs.
9. Ensuring safe working conditions for everyone involved in the testing and assessment of site machinery and equipment.
10. Providing training for system testing and evaluation where appropriate.
11. Travelling to different client sites for specified periods of time to oversee commissioning projects.
12. Participate in lessons learnt meetings following project completion.
Person Specification
Qualifications
1. Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field or relevant knowledge and experience in a similar role.
Experience
1. 10 years plus UK experience of Commissioning of HV Systems incl. transformers, CB’s, BZP protection, Intertripping schemes at a minimum 132kV.
2. Leading and influencing people/teams from other functions.
3. Working to tight deadlines.
4. Understanding of Outage Planning.

8. Good knowledge of secondary and primary injection methods, CT’s and VT’s testing, functional checks, hard wire or fibre optic intertrips, DNP3 and 10pair hard wired communication, SCADA check to the Customer Control Room, on load checks and tests i.e. DEF, DOC.
9. Good knowledge of Testing/programming of Micom series relays incl. psl and DNP3, Siemens Siprotec, Sepam, Microtapp’s and SuperTapp’s, P&B, GEC, Alstom/Areva incl. Optimho and K series, ABB, Reyrolle incl. Solkor R/Rf/N and Ohmega series, Toshiba, A-eberle REG-D.
10. Good IT and analytical skills.
11. Use of Omicron equipment in a live test environment.
12. Good knowledge of Reydisp, DIGSI, Agile.
13. Good understanding of RTS/OTN requirements.
