Job summary
To be responsible for the implementation of processes for theeffective management of patients with treatment room needs using evidence-basedpractice including care for elderly and housebound patients.
Working as a member of the practice multidisciplinary team, thepost holder will ensure nursing services are delivered effectively to theentitled patient population.
The Practice Nurse will be responsible for a number of clinicalareas such as infectionprevention and control, health promotion, childhood immunisationsand adult vaccines, health promotion, well women and well man clinics, as wellas actively supporting the practice management team in the reviewing anddelivery of clinical policy and procedure.
Abbey Road Surgery must ensure that thepost holder has access to appropriate clinical supervision and an appropriatenamed individual in the organisation to provide general advice and support on aday-to-day basis.
Main duties of the job
The following are the core responsibilities ofthe Practice Treatment Room Nurse. There may be, on occasion, a requirement to carry out othertasks. This will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffinglevels:
To develop, implement and embed an effective caremanagement programme for the frail and housebound patients registered at thepractice
To develop, implement and embed health promotion and wellbeingprogrammes
As required, to provide routine nursing care to patientsin accordance with clinical based evidence, NICE and the NSF
To prescribe medication for patients in accordance withPGDs and own scope of practice
To request pathology services and process pathologyresults as required
To develop, implement, embed and participate in wellwoman clinics
To develop, implement, embed and participate in well manclinics
To ensure compliance with the practice chaperone policy
To assist GPs with minor surgery when required
To implement vaccination programmes for adults andchildren
To liaise with external services/agencies to ensure thepatient is supported appropriately (vulnerable patients etc.)
To support the clinical team with all safeguardingmatters, in accordance with local and national policies
To deliver opportunistic health promotion whereappropriate
About us
Abbey Road Surgery is based in a new purpose built health centre situated in the centre of Barrow-in-Furness. We have 3 GP partners, a salaried GP and an advance nurse practitioner.
The nursing team consists of a nurse manager, an experienced practice nurse, 2 HCA and 2 GPA's.
We also have an experienced administration team.
All managed by the practice manger and assistant practice manager.
