Main Responsibilities What youll do Travelling on our trains and patrolling our stations, youll help to deal with anti-social behaviour, crime and fare evasion. Sometimes it means physically stepping in to deescalate a situation. Other times it means seizing evidence and taking reports for minor crimes. However, youll never do it alone.Youll work with your partner, station teams, train staff, the British Transport Police and other services to resolve incidents and make sure vulnerable passengers get thesupportthey need. Your home base will be one of our depots which are located at Ashford, Chatham, Dartford, Dover, Hastings, Margate, Orpington, Sittingbourne, Snodland and Tonbridge. Your training When you join us, youll be enrolled into our Passenger Services Apprenticeship Programme. Youll complete a mix of classroom-based and on-the-job learning, covering everything from functional skills to conflict management. Although its always a last resort, sometimes physical intervention is needed to resolve a conflict. Our training will make sure you can do thisconfidentlyand safely. Your shifts You will work a varied shift pattern, which includes weekends, bank holidays and nights. Shifts can start as early as 6am or finish at 2am. Rosters vary but its likely youll work one week of early shifts followed by three weeks of late shifts. The Ideal Candidate The experience youll need You dont need railway experience to do this role. Were looking for people from all backgrounds to join our team. All you need is: excellent verbal and written communication skills experience working directly with customers, ideally where youve had to deal with conflicts or anti-social behaviour gooddecision-making and calmness under pressure the ability to be resilient,assertiveand remain professional in confrontational situations the ability to use your own initiative and work well in a team the skills to evaluate and interpret information and make appropriate decisions. However, we can only consider you for the role if you: live within a 45-minute travel time to the location youre applying for have been a UK resident for three years or more complete an NPPV Level 2 Vetting undertaken by the British Transport Police To help with this, youll need declare any criminal history on your application form.This includes all adult or juvenile arrests, summons, charges, cautions or convicted offences such as traffic-related offences or financial sanctions like bankruptcy or CCJs.
