Description
Your principal duty is to work as a Porter following the instructions given to you by your Foreman/Supervisor, and to work co-operatively with your colleagues, although you may be given other work to carry out from time to time.
You will be proficient in all aspects of loading and unloading vehicles, securing loads and skilled in making collections and deliveries in order that you can carry out your job to the highest standard.
You will be expected to be able to complete all documentation relevant to a collection or delivery.
Key Responsibilities
1. Wrapping, packing and labelling small items: You will be competent in the fundamentals of wrapping, packing and labelling small items according to Cadogan Tate's working practices.
2. Wrapping and packing carpets and furniture: You will be competent in the fundamentals of wrapping and packing carpets and furniture according to Cadogan Tate's working practices.
3. Wrapping and packing specialist tasks: You will be competent to know how to wrap and pack a specialist item such as a mirror, marble statue, barometer, mantle or long case clock. You will gain experience of this each time the task is undertaken.
4. Completion of documentation: You will be competent to know how to complete all documentation relevant to a move.
5. Vehicle/container loading and unloading: You will be competent to know how to load and unload a vehicle and/or container.
6. Maintain Safe Working Conditions: You should be aware of health & safety issues and be looking out for unhealthy, unsafe or hazardous areas of your working environment and dealing with these in accordance with Cadogan Tate's health and safety policy.
7. Control of Resources: You should be aware of controlling resources such as packing materials etc.
8. Customer Care: You will have developed your communication and interpersonal skills.
9. Supervisory Skills: You should be developing your supervisory skills and should be able to assist your team members, especially passing on your knowledge to any trainee porters on your team.

* Able to read, understand and speak English competently
* Proven experience of the role of a porter for at least two years with Cadogan Tate or 3 years with another member of the British Association of Removers (or another recognised and relevant trade association) or satisfactory proof of achievement of the required standards and skills based on formal training by Cadogan Tate or another recognised training organisation.
Learning & Development
You must attend and pass a Porters Training Module and have demonstrated proficiency in all aspects of the Porters role. The Company is committed to developing the skills of all its employees through training. One of the most important elements of your role is to participate actively in the training programmes. You will have attended an Induction course covering manual handling, health & safety and the Foundation Skills course to ensure that you fully understand the unique requirements of the company. You should also be prepared to attend a one-day basic First Aid awareness course. Performance assessments will be carried out and further training will be specified as necessary. Promotion to more senior or specialised roles depends upon you undertaking further training courses and being assessed as having reached the required standards.

You have a responsibility to report to your Manager any matters that might have been overlooked. All employees are part of a team and should maintain an awareness of the important elements of other employees’ responsibilities with whom their own responsibilities overlap. Employees must work co-operatively and supportively with other employees. Employees have a responsibility to report any concerns to their supervising manager or to Head Office.
