Role Overview: The Assistant Payroll Manager will be responsible for ensuring that payroll is processed accurately and on time. This role involves addressing queries from business leaders, stabilising workloads, and promoting a positive team environment. The Assistant Payroll Manager will also serve as a subject matter expert, continuously looking for ways to enhance operational processes. Key Responsibilities: Facilitate monthly team meetings and provide ongoing support to ensure workloads are managed effectively. Supervise and assess the performance of direct reports, revising evaluation and departmental plans as needed. Ensure that team members have the necessary skills and training to meet business and personal development goals. Collaborate with the team to identify process improvement initiatives and set standards for new payroll procedures. Act as a backup for team members during absences or peak periods. Maintain payroll accuracy by managing budgets, monitoring expenditures, and making adjustments as necessary. Keep payroll records current by reviewing and entering modifications, such as deductions and exemptions. Audit payroll information to identify and correct any discrepancies, ensuring balanced payroll accounts. Accurately run the monthly payroll, including HMRC payments and payroll journals. Compile and submit pension data to various pension scheme providers on a monthly basis. What We're Looking For: The ideal candidate will possess: A minimum of five years of experience in a payroll function, with exposure to multiple areas. Strong people management skills and the ability to motivate a team. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. A keen eye for detail, with the ability to analyse and interpret information effectively. A commitment to providing exceptional customer service and fostering strong internal relationships.
