Job overview
The successful applicant will join our busy but friendly department at the Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother Hospital in Margate with the opportunity to subspecialise in anaesthesia for a variety of surgical specialties dependant on individual interests and training. Specialties include maxillofacial surgery for the head and neck cancer service, ENT, Obstetrics, Regional, Trauma, orthopaedics and colorectal surgery amongst others. In addition to the clinical responsibilities of the post, the department is looking for a candidate who will bring other skills and knowledge. This might include patient safety, quality improvement, teaching, management, or research.
Main duties of the job
This is a 10PA post which includes 2 SPAs.
Any candidate who wishes to work less than full time will be considered and supported, taking into account service needs. Additional sessions may be available on request.
A formal job plan will be agreed within three months of appointment and can be honed to reflect the individual's clinical expertise and needs of the service. The job plan will then be reviewed annually.

The anaesthetic department operates at three of these: The William Harvey Hospital in Ashford and The Queen Elizabeth, The Queen Mother Hospital in Margate have a full range of district general hospital services, as well as regional specialties. Kent & Canterbury Hospital in Canterbury is a specialist services hub which provides adult medical care, inpatient renal, urology and vascular services, and robotic surgery.
In addition, a new hospital in Dover, the Buckland, and Royal Victoria Hospital, Folkestone, provide a variety of outpatient, diagnostic, and minor injury services, alongside a range of services throughout the local area.

Person specification
Qualifications and training
* FRCA or equivalent
* CCT/CESR in Anaesthesia (or within 6 months of CCT)
* Full GMC registration
* Experience in airway/maxillofacial anaesthesia or paediatric anaesthesia.
Skills and experience
* Experience of working within the NHS
* Wide experience of adult and paediatric anaesthesia
* Post CCT clinical experience.
* Leadership roles.
Clinical governance
* Evidence of involvement in Audit/QI/Governance processes
* Involvement in research.
* Leadership or management course.
Other requirements
* Able to provide on-call commitment at QEQH
