Role and Responsibilities
* Oversees Chip Mill staff, and the supervision of all activities that supports daily operations.
* Monitors / Reports the inventory of roundwood and stored chips and bark, then balances the replenishment of that inventory with production of green chips from the chip mill.
* Develops and implements standard production and PM processes for each chip mill operation and reviews paperwork daily to ensure timely completion of work.
* Monitors the QC process to ensure green chip quality is within company guidelines. Makes equipment and process adjustments based on daily chip quality reports.
* Improves reliability and performance of new and existing equipment in the plant which entails maintaining productivity gains, improving mean time between failures, elimination of chronic failures, and improving ease of maintenance.
* Responsible for the management of the area budget.
* Ensures all staff are trained and qualify to work on all machinery in the area.
* Deliver corrective action plans as needed including the PIP process when necessary.
* Manages CAPEX projects including budget and contractors per contracts.
* Reviews and analyses work accomplishments, costs, and utilization to evaluate progress, budgeting and anticipate possible issues, including unanticipated or emergency requirements.
* Maintains equipment to company standards and ensures minimal downtime.
* Eliminate or control hazardous conditions resulting from human error, equipment and machine operations, which may lead to injury and property damage.
* Maintain communication with Plant Manager to assure production requirements are understood.
* Proactively identifies and resolves emerging problems with equipment. Enters applicable work requests for repairs as needed. Follows up with all work orders for repairs.
* Provides any form of required assistance while carrying out duties.
* Submits reports in accordance with reporting directives.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
* Two-year degree or equivalent courses and/or 5 years' experience in industrial supervision, a four-year degree preferred.
* Minimum of 5 years' experience in the fiber industry.
* Project management experience and formal Lean manufacturing training is preferred.
* Prior experience in supervising staff, and experience with vendor supervision and compliance.
* Experience in continuous process environment.
* Must have good oral and written communication skills.
* Possess the following KPI's: results focused, planning & organization, technical knowledge & troubleshooting, communications proficiency, and vision-strategy.
* Willing to work in rigorous environment including extreme heat, cold, dust and wet conditions.
* Must be able to walk, climb, twist, turn, grasp, lift, push, pull, reach, bend, squat and work on platforms in excess of 100 feet.
* Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
