An exciting opportunity to join UKAS, the world’s leading accreditation body, in a significant newly-created leadership role heading up the Construction Section.
The creation of this prestigious role is a unique chance for a construction industry leader to join an organisation that is at the forefront of innovation in the provision of accreditation services spanning certification, testing, inspection, calibration, validation and verification.
UKAS’s Construction Section manages a diverse portfolio of customers across the national construction sector and is instrumental in influencing policy and external advisory forums, giving the successful candidate the opportunity to make an impact in the conformity assessment industry.
This high-profile leadership role would suit someone with a strong track record of quality management within the construction sector, specifically with experience in certification, testing or inspection services.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the delivery of accreditation and assessment services to customers, including:
1. Ensuring the delivery of a technically rigorous, high-quality assessment service to the section’s customers
2. Managing a team of assessment and senior assessment managers as well as key stakeholders
3. Managing the accreditation decision-making process for the section
4. Budget management and the formulation of section-specific policies and procedures
5. Ensuring the section has adequate levels of trained and competent internal and external assessment resources to manage and deliver assessments across UKAS’s construction sector.
The successful candidate will have the following:
1. Proven track record of working with conformity assessment standards, such as ISO/IEC 17025 or ISO/IEC 17065, and an understanding of how they provide confidence to stakeholders
2. Demonstrable ability to line and performance manage technical and/or scientific employees
3. Experience in budget management
4. Previous experience managing a remote-based workforce
5. A passion for people management and developing technical skills within a team
6. Proven experience in leading internal networks to ensure the best possible outcome for the overall business.
While the role is remote-based, regular attendance at the UKAS head office and other countrywide locations is necessary to meet with colleagues and external stakeholders. Consequently, a reasonable level of travel and nights away from home are to be expected.
UKAS is appointed by the government to assess and accredit organisations that provide services spanning certification, testing, inspection, calibration, validation and verification.
