The Opportunity
We have a fantastic opportunity for a permanent Principal Commercial Manager to join the Energy Transition & Sustainability (ET&S) business within Amey Consulting.
The ET&S business is a newly formed collection of capabilities to deliver holistic environmental, carbon and sustainability solutions to clients.
The business stream will initially deliver £10m per annum and includes specialisms across energy, the built environment, sustainability and climate resilience.
A major part of this role is therefore to define and manage our proposals and set the monthly business pulse to ensure our aspirational goals are met whilst complying with good governance.
Key responsibilities:
* Promote the Amey “Zero Harm” Safety Culture and supports delivery of the Target Zero Action Plans.
* Promote and develop commercial collaboration and effective working relationships with other Business Units in Consulting and across the wider Amey.
* Accountable for delivering commercial best practice to maximise value and minimise risk and cost to Amey with due regards to Customer Relationship Management.
* Creating and developing effective customer relationships with the commercial, financial and operational leadership in their area of influence.
* To negotiate the relevant issues with customers that is important to their area.
* Develop and enhance commercial liaison and influence with trade organisations, and key commercial groups.
* Create value for new and existing business. To implement innovative commercial frameworks that supports the growth of our business.
* To commercially be responsible for the value and dispute management of the Business Unit.
* Champion process and systems to bring efficiency to commercial management.
* Implement commercial opportunity and risk strategy, including the supply chain arrangements and put in place the processes to ensure that such commercial opportunities and risks are managed effectively.
* Work within the leadership team to develop, implement, monitor and review the commercial deliverables in the business to meet the market strategy in the Business Unit including, inter alia, the organisational structure for post contract commercial.
* Liaise with and support where required, the Pre-contract services commercial team.
* Influence and lead the commercial staff in your area to meet deliverables in terms of cash and value and monitoring of the cost/value reconciliations to enhance the commercial awareness and support the achievement of the business financial KPI’s.
* Coach and develop commercial staff under their influence to enable them to grow and develop their futures and the succession of others to replace them.
* Be a role model for Amey’s Inclusion and Diversity policy and encouraging an open and honest environment within the team. Supporting the recruitment and retention of commercial staff.
What you will bring to us:
* Holds a quantity surveying, commercial or related profession, degree or master’s degree - desirable.
* Completion of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and progression to Member/Fellow status of the relevant professional institutions will be an expectation of the role.
* Excellent Health & Safety awareness and ability to enforce safety policies and compliance in Commercial terms.
* Excellent commercial and financial acumen.
* Clear understanding of the importance of robust business processes and systems and a strong commitment to quality.
* Legal understanding relevant to contracts.
* Knowledge of the UK governments’ agenda for support services including the Outsourcing or Construction Playbooks.
* Awareness of the wider industry drivers, direction of travel and competitors.
* Outstanding leadership skills and ability to build an effective team.
* Outstanding communication and presentation skills, with a strength in stakeholder management.
* Works openly and collaboratively to maximise overall organisational health.
