Position Overview: We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Head of Business Development to lead our growth initiatives across a key geographical region, spanning from Oxford (west) to Norfolk (east) and London (south). This senior leadership role is critical in driving the expansion of our business, fostering key relationships, and identifying new revenue streams. The ideal candidate will possess a strong business acumen, excellent relationship-building skills, and a proven track record of developing and executing strategic plans to drive business growth.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Strategic Leadership: Develop and implement a comprehensive business development strategy to expand the company's footprint within the designated region (build on Cambridge but focus on growth towards Oxford (west) and Norwich (East)). Lead market research and analysis to identify new business opportunities, emerging trends, and areas for growth. Work closely with senior leadership and other departments to align business development strategies with the company's overall objectives.
2. Relationship Management: Build and maintain strong, long-lasting relationships with key stakeholders, including clients, partners, and industry influencers. Represent the company at industry events, networking opportunities, and conferences across the region. Serve as the primary point of contact for high-level clients and partners, ensuring exceptional service and satisfaction.
3. Revenue Generation & Growth: Identify and pursue new business opportunities across sectors, both within the private and public sectors. Support preconstruction team to develop and deliver persuasive proposals, presentations, and contracts to secure new business. Work closely with the preconstruction and marketing teams to optimize lead generation and conversion strategies.
4. Team Collaboration and Mentorship: Lead, manage, and mentor a team of business development professionals, providing guidance, coaching, and support to ensure targets and KPIs are met. Foster a collaborative culture within the business development team, promoting best practices, continuous learning, and innovative thinking.
5. Tools & Tactics: Work with the Marketing Manager to maintain accurate data, track prospecting activity and generate reports with HubSpot CRM. Maximise use of lead gen tools, frameworks and market intelligence to seek out new opportunities. Champion the use of tools such as LinkedIn Sales Navigator to create and update target lists.
6. Reporting & Analysis: Monitor and report on progress against business development targets, providing regular updates to the CEO and board. Analyse performance data to evaluate the effectiveness of business development activities and implement improvements where necessary.
Skills & Experience:
1. Proven experience in a business development leadership role, ideally with experience of the property / construction sectors.
2. Strong knowledge of the business landscape within our regions, ideally across the office and lab space.
3. Excellent track record in securing new business and driving revenue growth.
4. Exceptional communication, presentation, and negotiation skills.
5. Ability to manage complex relationships with senior-level executives and decision-makers.
6. Self-motivated, proactive, and results-driven with a focus on achieving measurable outcomes.
7. Strong leadership and team management abilities.
8. Ability to travel within the defined region as needed.
