The opportunity At Hinkley Point C (HPC), we are building two new nuclear reactors, the first in a new generation of nuclear power stations in the UK providing low carbon electricity for around six million homes. As our EPR Operations Instructor, you will prepare and deliver training in EPR systems, technology and operations to facilitate the growth of EPR systems and operations expertise in the project and train EPR operators for HPC. What you’ll be doing As an EPR Operations Instructor, your responsibilities will be to: Deliver training in the classroom and simulator as well as coaching and mentoring trainees to expedite learning. Support the development of training material Responsible for leading training to groups of from 3 up to 20 people, depending on the subject and environment. Maintain relationships with the trainees to facilitate the achievement of learning, set cultural standards and expectations and exercise class management Communicate with line managers for the successful development of competence within their staff Maintain relationships with EPR stakeholders and Subject Matter Experts (SME) for the maintenance of source data for training and development of material Communicate with external contractors for the supply of training support services Complete training in PWR technology fundamentals comprising post graduate standard thermodynamics, reactor physics and PWR components, sit and pass the final assessment Undertake technical training including EPR systems, normal, abnormal and accident operations culminating in exams and simulator evaluations to demonstrate the achievement of the required competency. Prepare, deliver and evaluate EPR systems and MCR operations training to EPR operations instructors and operators. Take ownership for specific modules or elements of the training, overseeing the implementation of the training to ensure efficient training implementation in accordance with NNB training standards. Act as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for a specific EPR topic area, establishing a close relationship with the line department to ensure training content keeps pace with procedural and technological developments within your area of responsibility. Who you are You're a technically qualified professional with a relevant degree or higher, strong problem-solving abilities, and a collaborative mindset. Proficient in Microsoft Office, you communicate effectively and adapt quickly to evolving technologies. You bring solid mentoring and influencing skills, thrive in team environments, and apply science, engineering, and math in practical ways. Experience in a technical teaching/training environment would be a plus. Ideally, you have experience in technical or simulator training, are familiar with the Systematic Approach to Training (SAT), and understand modern learning methods. A teaching qualification, stakeholder engagement experience, or knowledge of nuclear power systems is a plus. Chartered status—or working towards it—would be advantageous. Full internal training will be provided to support you in the role. The position is predominantly based at Hinkley Point C, Bridgwater, but may require occasional travel to other company sites.
