A successful company who manufacturer, design & install roofing systems used within commercial projects across the UK are seeking a Commercial Manager to bring commercial discipline to the projects business. The role will be central to defining a new project management pathway, ensuring projects are delivered effectively to our customers, within timeframes and budgetary requirements. The focus will be on ensuring robust cost discipline, as well as negotiating project variations.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Acting as the company’s commercial lead for all project management related areas of the business
2. Maintain an accurate account of the costs associated with each project, ensuring they are tracked through appropriate measurement systems
3. Ensuring projects are delivered on time, and on budget
4. Drafting, negotiating, and amending contracts with clients
5. Leading challenging negotiations and settlements with clients, and/or other parties where necessary
6. Challenging project variations and costs with clients where necessary
7. Development of a project backlog management process, detailing all current projects, project profitability, then implementation plan over the coming years
8. Recording and maintaining a log of all project retentions, then ensuring they are collected in a timely fashion
9. Minimising the level of materials held on projects to the most efficient level, balancing the need for effective and timely delivery, with minimal inventory
10. Where necessary, sourcing and negotiating the price of materials, then maintaining an efficient route of supply
11. Agreeing project plans with clients, ensuring they are realistic and can be delivered on time and within expectations and budgetary constraints
12. Agree dates for applications for payments (AFPs) to clients, then ensuring they are correctly raised to clients on the agreed timescales
13. Developing strong internal relationships with the finance team
14. Utilise client relationships to track payments associated with projects
15. Ensuring compliance with regulatory, Health & Safety requirements where necessary
16. Attend client meetings, on site where required, upholding the discipline of regular client and/or project meetings to deliver an effective project
17. Make recommendations around team training and development
18. Understand and maintain knowledge of the markets served, staying informed on client activities, market dynamics and industry trends
Experience & Qualifications:
19. Ideally degree qualified, or professional commercial qualification
20. Strong commercial analytics skills, highly numerate, with the ability to understand and analyse numbers
21. Proficiency in cost negotiation and complex client negotiations
22. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
23. 5+ years’ experience in a similar commercial function, in a project role, or as a Quantity Surveyor
24. 5+ years’ experience of managing and motivating teams, ideally commercially and operationally based
25. Demonstrable commercial background in a sub contracting environment – able to evidence management of a projects business in a previous role
26. Inspires confidence and respect of peers, customers and partners
27. Financially astute, with the ability to assess risk and where/how best to align resources and capabilities for maximum effect
28. Ability to present and inspire internally and externally
This is a hybrid role, office based in Livingston, but with some options for home working. Travel across the UK is required
