Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Team Lead within our Acute Stroke team at Eastbourne District General Hospital.
As part of this role, you will manage a team of Occupational Therapists and support staff providing a high level of acute rehabilitation to patients admitted following an acute stroke.
Joining the large, supportive team in the Acute Stroke therapy department, you will have the opportunity to conduct in-service training programmes for support staff and manage a dedicated team daily.

Main duties of the job
1. Coordinate and operationally manage the specialist Occupational Therapy Service at the Acute Stroke Ward at EDGH.
2. Work closely with Allied Health Professional Leads, nursing, medical, and managerial team leads/managers in the operational and strategic development of the Stroke Unit.
3. Support and deputise for the Stroke Therapy Service Manager to complete delegated duties.
4. Work autonomously, being accountable for your own professional actions.
5. Delegate work and assist in supervising junior OT colleagues and support staff, providing training and joint sessions as required.
6. Manage an identified complex caseload, assessing, planning intervention, and evaluating patient care within service protocols.
7. Deliver high standards of clinical care, maintaining service delivery through effective prioritisation based on clinical and professional judgement.
8. Use a range of communication skills to engage with clients and carers, gaining consent and active participation, especially with those lacking capacity, within legal frameworks.
9. Maintain accurate, up-to-date records and reports in accordance with professional and Trust standards.
10. Forge close working relationships with colleagues across acute, intermediate care, and community stroke services to support a seamless stroke pathway.
11. Advise on equipment and environmental modifications, referring to other organisations as needed.
12. Act as an Occupational Therapy resource for colleagues, carers, and patients.
13. Ensure training, development, and appraisal of Occupational Therapy staff within the department.
14. Assist in supervising and educating Occupational Therapy students.
