The role
We are seeking a talented and driven Trading Standards Practitioner to join our Regulatory Services Team. In this pivotal role, you will complete a Level 6 Trading Standards Professional Apprenticeship and provide varied advice and enforcement relating to food standards, safety legislation and animal feeding stuffs.
What will you be doing?
As a Trading Standards Practitioner, you will make a significant impact on society and the community of Herefordshire. This role involves ensuring that businesses comply with trading standards laws, protecting consumers, and promoting fair trading practices. You will be part of a team dedicated to upholding ethical standards and contributing to the public good. This role requires a keen eye for detail, strong analytical skills, and a commitment to upholding ethical standards. You will work closely with other services within the council and external partners to ensure compliance and promote fair trading.
This role will be undertaken in conjunction with a Level 6 (equivalent to an undergraduate degree) professional apprenticeship. As part of completing the apprenticeship qualification, you will progress through the duties and responsibilities required of the role, starting with assisting colleagues, then undertaking a range of non-complex and complex matters under supervision. Towards the end of the apprenticeship, you will undertake complex matters on your own initiative and assist in day-to-day supervisory management. The salary scale for the role reflects the change in responsibilities over time.
About You
As a Trading Standards Practitioner you will be:
1. Educated to Level 3 and to a minimum Level 2 (GCSE Grade 4/C or above) in English, Mathematics & Science (or other level 2 equivalent).
2. Able to convey and explain complex legal and technical issues at all levels.
3. Able to exercise judgement as to the appropriate balance between education and enforcement.
4. Able to achieve results through negotiation, education and enforcement.
