About the Role
A vacancy exists at Torness Power Station for an Operations Manager. The post holder will be responsible for the day-to-day management and leadership of the Operations Department. The key emphasis for this position is to ensure continuous safe and reliable generation and requires a strong focus on embedding conduct of Operations and international standards across the department.
As Operations Manager reporting directly to the Plant Manager, you will have direct accountability for the functioning, effectiveness, productivity and output quality of the Operations Department. You will ensure that all activities in the Operations Department are executed with full regard to the site license requirements and statutory regulations.
The Operations Manager will also be accountable to the Plant Manager for the recruitment, development, qualification and performance of Operations personnel.

The position is a Personal Contract role which attracts a competitive salary dependent on your existing salary, competence, experience and qualifications. You will receive 25 days annual holiday plus bank holidays (worth noting that your current holiday entitlement will roll over), a company pension scheme and access to a flexible benefits package.
This is a full time, 37 Hours a week, site-based role.

What you'll be doing
The successful candidate will be:
* Responsible for managing and leading a department of around 185 operations employees
* A member of the Station Exec Team
* Authorised as an Emergency Controller
* Setting and delivering the Operations Department strategy
* Acting as a Station Champion for the decision-making processes
* Managing change and leading the Operations Department as the Station prepares for end of generation and defuelling phases of its operational life
* Responsible for ensuring department activities are carried out in accordance with site licence requirements, statutory regulations, company and local directives, procedures and Safety Rules.
* Responsible for ensuring that direct reports are trained on and effectively implement human interaction skills that result in improved teamwork, collaboration and motivation.
Who you are
As a minimum, you will have an HNC or equivalent in a relevant technical subject.
We are looking for someone who can demonstrate previous experience of working in a leadership position at Group Head, Shift Manager or Department Manager level.
Typically, you will have had experience and knowledge of Operations at a nuclear facility, demonstrating detailed knowledge of the site license conditions and legislation associated with the safe operation of a plant. You will display the ability to coach and influence others as well as demonstrating strong resilience in the face of challenge.
Candidates with Chartered Engineer status and/or degree level qualifications in a technical or engineering field will have an advantage. Experience of executing outages, event recoveries, WANO peer reviews, budget management are also desirable.
To be appointed to this role, you will need to meet the criteria for Security Vetting which will, ordinarily, require you to have been a resident of the UK for the last 5 years.
