3 months contract with local authority Job Purpose: Review and assess a wide range of domestic and commercial developments to ensure compliance with all relevant statutory building control requirements. Ensure the Building Control service meets the demands of the Building Safety Regulator and Building Safety Act 2022. Deliver the Councils Dangerous Structures (DS) function, including managing contractors and associated debt recovery operations. Work with the leadership team to provide an effective Building Control service. Maintain a culture of putting residents first and continuous service improvement. Main Duties and Responsibilities: Core Functions: Ensure domestic and commercial building control submissions are processed within statutory time periods, aiming to reduce rejections and resubmissions. Record construction details and inspections of work carried out under The Building Regulations. Liaise with the London Fire Brigade on applications related to the Building Regulations and Building Safety Act. Investigate unauthorized work, take appropriate action, and prosecute contraventions as necessary. Provide a dangerous structures service, including an out-of-hours response, and take necessary action to remove dangers as required by statute. Ensure a positive approach to recouping the Councils costs related to enforcement, dangerous structures, or direct works. Advise the Head of Development Management & Building Control on draft responses to formal complaints. Provide advice, support, and guidance on building control issues to colleagues, Members, and the public. Offer expertise to the Senior Management Team on dangerous structures, building safety, and corporate risk. Provide specialist expert advice and guidance on all aspects of building control legislation, policy guidance, and practice. Stay updated on building control legislation, policy guidance, and practice, ensuring the service is compliant and staff are appropriately trained. Accountable for statutory responsibilities related to Building Control and enforcement. Engagement: Build positive relationships with other officers within the Council, service users, residents, and their representative bodies. Contribute to effective Member and staff engagement, training, and learning opportunities, particularly on building control issues. Represent the service at senior-level meetings, project meetings, committees, public meetings, and with external agencies as necessary. Customer: Maintain high-quality communication internally and externally with officers, customers, members, and the general public. Promote understanding and awareness of the building control service and its offerings to potential customers. Additional Responsibilities: Deputize for the Building Control Manager as appropriate. Work outside normal working hours as needed. Liaise with the Council's Civil Protection Team and take the corporate lead on dangerous structures, including in emergencies.
