Joining a large-scale business, this role will join an established procurement division focused on Sustainable Procurement to reflect changes to government policy such as the launch of the Social Value Act and Modern Slavery Act which are now contractually with prime contractors across the business and to ensure flowed down through Supply Chain.
Role: Buyer / Senior Buyer - Sustainability / ESG
Location: Hertfordshire (hybrid working)

Salary: £40,000 - £50,000 (potentially flexibility around salary DOE) + bonus + benefits
Key responsibilities:
1. Embedding sustainable procurement into all aspects of how the business manages their procurement lifecycle and ensuring collaboration with Supply Chain, Partners, and Suppliers to improve ESG impacts.
2. Developing skills across ESG topics, particularly focusing on Environment, to lead initiatives with supply chain partners to reduce emissions targets.
3. Owning the systems used to assess the ESG risks in the supply chain and how our suppliers are performing.
4. Understanding the Strategic aims of Sustainable Procurement and contributing to identifying priority areas that address the challenges faced.
5. Leading initiatives to engage with the supply chain to hold detailed and generic discussions around Sustainable Procurement, ensuring interactions are documented and available to the team, including producing Case Studies and/or benefits cases where required.
6. Proactively managing the allocated Suppliers and ensuring that all data/KPI/reports are received. Providing data-led evidence where performance is below expectations and working with the Supplier to agree on an improvement plan.
7. Utilising existing stakeholder maps and developing a simplified SP reporting methodology to reduce the quantity of reports produced while improving consistency and quality.
8. Supporting initiatives and opportunities to engage and educate on the full range of Sustainable Procurement topics.
9. Project managing engagement events to support our buying communities with opportunities to engage with new potential suppliers and promote sustainable procurement and social value ethics.
Key skills and experience required:
1. Experience in, or willingness to learn about ESG and Sustainable Procurement.
2. Adaptable and flexible against frequently uncertain or changing requirements.
3. Strong communication skills, including the ability to present complex concepts simply and concisely.
4. Confident preparing and providing reports both verbally and in written format.
5. Strong Excel skills, comfortable managing spreadsheets and undertaking data analysis.
6. Confident in briefing a range of information, tailoring outputs to meet the needs of a wide range of stakeholders.
7. Rounded business acumen and ability to engage credibly across the enterprise.
