We are looking for an experienced Head of Capacity and Flow to provide clinical leadership in managing patient flow across elective and non-elective pathways. This is a pivotal role in ensuring safe, effective, and timely patient movement throughout the hospital, while also working closely with system partners to improve discharge processes and capacity planning.
Main duties of the job
As Head of Capacity and Flow, you will:
* Provide clinical leadership and oversight of hospital flow, ensuring the efficient management of patient admissions, transfers, and discharges.
* Manage the Clinical Site Team and Discharge Lounge Team, ensuring operational effectiveness and patient safety.
* Work closely with the System Head of Transfer of Care and the Deputy Director of Care Coordination to align hospital flow with wider system strategies.
* Act as a key outward-facing representative, collaborating with external system partners to improve capacity planning and discharge pathways across health and social care.
* Implement proactive strategies to manage bed capacity, reduce delays, and ensure safe discharge planning.
* Use clinical expertise to drive continuous improvement initiatives, ensuring high standards of care and operational efficiency.
* Provide senior decision-making support in managing site escalation and flow during times of increased demand.

Job responsibilities
To succeed in this role, you will need:
* Extensive clinical experience in a healthcare setting, with a strong understanding of patient flow, capacity management, and discharge planning.
* A professional background in nursing, allied health professions (AHP), or another relevant clinical discipline.
* Proven leadership skills with experience in managing multidisciplinary teams and hospital operations.
* Strong ability to work collaboratively with system partners across health and social care.
* A strategic mindset with excellent problem-solving skills, able to make high-level clinical and operational decisions in real time.
* Experience in working within integrated care boards (ICB) or cross-organisational healthcare partnerships.

Person Specification
Education and qualifications
* Masters Degree or equivalent experience
* A clinical background/registration (NMC, AHP, HCPC)
Experience
* Track record in a Senior Management, senior site management, senior clinical role, leading change or service improvement in a public service. Experience of working at an operational level in the NHS, and acute provider experience.
* Relevant senior experience of being an innovative leader, being responsive to change and can lead and drive through change at pace.

Salary: £74,290 to £85,601 per annum plus 5% high cost area supplement
