We have the rare opportunity for a creative and conscientious editorial assistant to join our dynamic editorial team to support our bestselling, award-winning children’s and YA list of fiction, non-fiction, poetry, and graphic novels.
Your team:
You will be an integral part of a close-knit, innovative team working on books for middle grade, teen, and YA/crossover audiences. The breadth of talent on our list speaks for itself: we publish exceptional children’s authors and champion high-profile brands. First Ink, our dedicated YA imprint, includes groundbreaking names, and on our non-fiction and poetry lists, we’re proud to be the home of notable authors. In the editorial team, we collaborate closely with the design, production, sales, and communications teams to bring our books to life. We prioritize nurturing talent, pushing creative boundaries, and expanding our reach to inspire the young readers of tomorrow.
Your role:
As an editorial assistant, you will play a crucial role in supporting the editorial process from manuscript to publication. You will assist in the development and production of a wide range of children’s and YA books, keeping them on track from submission to publication and beyond.
Your key responsibilities:
* Reading and reporting on new submissions
* Keeping our Biblio database and book metadata up to date
* Assisting with administrative and editorial tasks as necessary, e.g., preparing manuscripts for publication, coordinating offset files, proof mailouts
* Drafting cover copy, straplines, and other creative copy in conjunction with the editors
* Providing administrative support to the Publisher and Publishing Director, and the editorial team at large
* Acting as the main point of contact for colleagues regarding the publishing schedule and fielding external inquiries.
Essential experience, abilities, and knowledge you’ll need to succeed:
* Passionate about children's and YA literature and a keen interest in current market trends
* Strong writing, editing, and oral communication skills
* Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail
* Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet tight deadlines
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively collaborate with team members and external partners
* A willingness to learn new skills and software
* Ability to work calmly under pressure.
Desirable skills we’d love you to have:
* Familiarity with Microsoft Word and Excel, and Google Docs and Sheets.

This is a full-time, permanent position based in our offices in Farringdon, London, with some flexibility to work from home each week.
