Medical Secretary -Diabetes and Endocrine
We are looking to recruit a Medical Secretary to work as part of a the administration team based at Wycombe Hospital.
To provide a comprehensive Medical Secretarial and Administration Service to the Department in strict accordance with GDPR and Trust confidentiality guidelines, ensuring all work is processed in a timely, efficient way.
Provide a full and comprehensive Medical Secretarial Service, including timely audio typing of clinic letters and documents, organize group clinic sessions and general administration required by the Diabetes Specialist Nursing Team. This may involve correction of incorrect grammar and interpretation of different pronunciations and handwritten clinical notes of advanced medical terminology.
Main duties of the job
* To provide a support administration service within the department. To undertake accurate audio/copy typing (including digital) of medical correspondence and general administration for a team of Diabetes Specialist Nurses. This could include highly sensitive and complex medical terminology with a need for confidentiality
* Use Care Records Service for checking patients in and out, making appointments, tracking medical notes etc.
* To receive and open mail, to action routine/non-routine and urgent correspondence, drawing the necessary items to the attention of the person(s) concerned
* To assist with the daily management of clinic lists and booking of priority patients into clinics
* To exercise initiative in dealing with enquiries from the patients/relatives, general practitioners and individual departments both on the telephone and in person. Reassuring patients (carers/relatives if appropriate) waiting for appointments, test results and commencement of treatment. To take appropriate action where this is required
* To act as part of a departmental team, thus providing secretarial and administrative services as necessary for colleagues in their absence

Person Specification
Qualifications
* GCSE Grade C or above/equivalent in English Language
* RSA II Typing, or equivalent
* Medical Secretarial Course/ Medical Terminology Course, or ability to demonstrate equivalent
Experience
* Experience of working within the NHS in a similar setting
* Experience of working within busy office environment
* Experience of word processing
* Experience of audio-typing
* Ability to work with highly confidential data, and to maintain patient confidentiality
* Good working knowledge of MS Office
Special Circumstances
* Willing to travel between the three hospital sites within the Trust
* Able to maintain a flexible approach to the role and duties
