This post is part the Estate Engineering Team, who work closely with a large range of suppliers and internal staff to provide technical guidance and to ensure that the university mechanical and electrical infrastructures are compliant & maintained to a high standard across an estate comprising Tutorial, Commercial and Student Residence spaces.
About the Role
The Water Hygiene Supervisor will manage the water hygiene requirement for the University of Derby acting under the authority of the Appointed Responsible Person (Director of Estates) ensuring that the University sites and premises remain statutory compliant in accordance with the appropriate regulations to an approved standard.
This role will be working within a small but highly skilled team of engineers to provide specialist advice to Estates department and colleges across the University. The role will be responsible for managing legionella compliance and assurance in accordance with ACOP L8 `Legionnaires' disease. The control of legionella bacteria in water systems` and HSG274.
The main responsibilities will include
the management of an electronic compliance monitoring system (ZETASAFE), reviewing current asset data and ensuring the system is populated with relevant information to enable electronic monitoring to be carried out.
managing consultants, contractors and overseeing the management of all water systems in accordance with current legislation and best practice.
working closely with the Estates Compliance Team to maintain the water management plan and ensure that all information is recorded, accurate and kept up to date in line with the University’s policies and procedures.
being responsible for managing compliance assurance on a range of statutory inspections of water assets and systems. Assisting the Responsible Person/s in their duties relating to water hygiene and legionella compliance.
being responsible for ensuring that the new building developments are integrated in to the university of derby water hygiene strategy.
This role is part of the Estates department out of hours rota, providing a first response to urgent estates related issues, which occur outside the normal operating hours. On call rates will apply and be discussed at interview.
About You
You will have a strong knowledge on the management of water hygiene requirement across a complex estate and be able to give recent examples of where and how this has been applied.
The job will require a strong knowledge of the current health & safety and Water Regulations as well as an understanding of a wide variety of mechanical building service system, and their controls including BMS integration across the entire estates management portfolio. Therefore we are asking that you hold an Industry recognised Water Regulations Qualification as well as a HNC / HND in Plumbing or Building Services Engineering OR Extensive equivalent experience in the building services sector such as plumbing.
You will be able to confidently manage contractors and fully understand the safe systems of work required in the facilities management sector is an essential requirement with supporting health and safety management qualifications preferred. You will have experience working in higher education environments across a large estate providing maintenance in residential, commercial and industrial premise.
The role requires somebody who can work both independently, as well as a part of a team to ensure works are seen through to completion. You will be self-motivated; be able to prioritise your own workloads and be able to display excellent communication, organisational, IT and project management skills.
A customer service ethos which matches the University’s values and behaviours is essential; outstanding communication, persuasion and influencing skills are a must, as is a drive for continuous improvement and a determination for excellence.
You will demonstrate an ability and genuine interest in keeping abreast of the external environment with regards to relevant BeMS / Building Services industry and higher education developments.
