What you’ll do as a Special Manufacturing Technician
As a Special Manufacturing Technician, you will have the opportunity to work as a key part of the Manufacturing Engineering Team in the Special Manufacturing Unit (SMU) within the Operations function. You will be key in satisfying multitude production requirements; from the manufacture of one-off special- to-type test equipment, the creation of equipment to support local engineering development, all the way through to supporting requests from other UK lines of business and bespoke customer requirements.
In this role, you will need to be able to manage your own workload, comfortable working closely with Engineering, content working with minimal requirements/instructions and making production decisions based on your knowledge and understanding.
What we need from you
As a Special Manufacturing Technician you will need to have
1. Ability to identify and work with a range of hand tools to a high level of dexterity, precision and accuracy and experience in mechanical assembly of a diverse range of assemblies.
2. Ability to carry out bespoke assembly of high value, high accuracy electro-mechanical assemblies through a variety of production processes, often with minimal manufacturing work instruction i.e. lack of formal documentation, and follow verbal instruction solely.
3. Ability to interpret engineering drawings, wiring diagram, BOMs (bills of material) and follow technical manufacturing instructions.
4. Ability to estimate manufacturing process times and adhere to specified production build times.
5. Ability to self-inspect work ensuring that quality standards are maintained and acceptable levels of workmanship met.
6. Ability to comply with Health and Safety requirements such as risk assessments and COSHH.
7. Familiarity with soldering technology, including tools, solders, fluxes, cleaning methods, soldering techniques and surface mount technology.
8. Familiarity of electrical and electronic assembly techniques, including cable forms, printed circuit assemblies, enclosure assemblies.
9. Awareness of FOD (foreign Object Debris) and ESD (Electro-Static Discharge) safe working practices.
10. Awareness of raising assembly or supplier quality related defects and quality notifications.
11. Experience of manufacturing of cables, wires, harnesses and soldering to IPC Standards in J-Std-001, IPC 610/620 and rework standard IPC 7711/21.
12. Maintain pro-active communication with Team Leader and adjacent functions such as Project, Engineering or Quality as required.

13. Ability to deal with frequent change, delays, unexpected events or ambiguity.
14. Ability to manage workload and work autonomously when required.
15. Ability/experience machining and modification part using Mill, Lathe, and other general workshop machinery.
