Main duties of the job
This is an excellent opportunity for Registered Nurses from a variety of backgrounds and experience to develop their career in working with children and families. You will have the opportunity to deliver the Healthy Child Programme with Health Visitors, to develop skills in public health and multi-agency working to support the health needs of the children and families.
We currently have a vacancy in our Eastern team for a Full time Staff Nurse.Other hours may be available-please enquire within. Our Public Health Nurse teams are innovative, enthusiastic and motivated to deliver the best healthy outcomes for children and families within Devon. Excellent peer-based support and supervision will be given while you develop your knowledge, skills and competence.
You should have evidence of recent professional development and an understanding of Community Practice and Public Health Issues. Job Purpose:
To support delivery of the Healthy Child Programme (HCP) 0-19 (DH 2010) therebyimproving outcomes for children and families.
To contribute to the Public Health Agenda, meet Public Health targets and reduce healthinequalities in partnership with key agencies meeting National agendas.
To promote the protection of children, adhering to the Local Safeguarding Childrens Boardpolicies and procedures.
To work under the supervision of band 6 School NurseHealth Visitor within a locality SchoolNursing Health Visiting team, and with partner agencies where appropriate, e.g. Early Helpnetworks, Childrens Centres, school leadership teams.
To work as part of a team to ensure that Key Performance Indicator targets that areset/negotiated by Local Area Teams/Commissioners for the service are met and evidenced.
To support service development, standard setting, clinical audit and bench marking, deliver ahigh quality needs led, safe and effective service to all client groups.

Main duties and responsibilities:
Participate in the assessment of health needs and formulation of care plans for children,young people, their families and communities. This includes the implementation ofprogrammes of care, offering support and advice to parents and families in the home, clinic,school or community setting ie: parenting skills, public health, group work and communityclinics.
In collaboration with the public health nursing team, identify individuals and groups within thecommunity where collaborative working and advice would forward the interests of publichealth and promote healthy living, in particular seeking to identify disadvantaged groups andaddress health inequity.
Offers advice and support to children, young people and adults in accordance with evidencebased practice.To actively take responsibility for appropriately identifying, accessing and participating insupervision, according to individual need i.e.: Child Protection, Restorative, and Clinical.
Support the delivery of key performance indicators by working collectively across widergeographical areas.
Under the direction of the Specialist Community Public Health Nurse Specialist completingthe Early Help Assessment (EHA), working with the multi-agency team in supporting childrenin need and those at risk of significant harm, including participating in case conferences andother meetings and writing reports where appropriate. This includes undertaking the role oflead professional or key worker for children and their families with the most complex needs.
Is aware of and complies with Devon County Councils policies, protocols, guidelines andprocedures, including policies on Health and Safety, Fire Regulations and Child Protectionpolicies and procedures, with support and guidance from manager and Named NurseSafeguarding Children.
Attends and contributes to Public Health Nursing team meetings to share knowledge andidentify areas of potential development for the service relating to Clinical Governance.
Where appropriate, manages and maintains equipment, eg: ensuring servicing of scales atthe required intervals. Has due regard to efficient and effective managements of resources,eg: accurate prediction and maintenance of supplies, informing line manager of anydifficulties encountered.
Monitors own performance against agreed objectives through the annual process of reviewand personal development plans and Nursing and Midwifery Council regulations, maintainingown portfolio.
Participates in the development and teaching of staff and students, and in the induction ofnew staff, eg: work based experience and training of staff at Band 4.
Takes responsibility for participating in regular, planned supervision and reflective practice.
Maintains and develops own professional expertise by arranging and attending meetings,study days and in service training, including mandatory training as agreed with the managerand professional lead.
Supported by the Specialist Community Public Health Nurse, Child Protection Supervisorand Named Nurse for Safeguarding Children, contributes to reports on own involvement withfamilies for relevant agencies and multi-agency meetings, including Child Protection CaseConferences, court reports and multi-disciplinary conferences on children with special needsaccording to protocols established by Childrens services.
Keeps a daily electronic diary containing accurate record of work content and travel.
Initiate and participate in data collection, research, audit, surveys and service user feedback.
Develop and maintain effective communication networks and working relationships, withservice users, health care professionals and other statutory and voluntary organisations. Incollaboration with the Specialist Community Public Health Nurse, shares information withother agencies, voluntary bodies and multi-disciplinary teams.
