Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Northamptonshire Community Brain Injury Service in this newly created post. As a Specialist Occupational Therapist, you will be a core member of our multidisciplinary team, providing high quality rehabilitation for people with brain injury across Northamptonshire.
The Community Brain Injury (CBI) service is a small, friendly team, dedicated to improving the lives of people affected by brain injury. We aim to do this through provision of a high quality multidisciplinary service, with emphasis on a patient-centred goal planning approach.
The team is comprised of Clinical Psychologists, Occupational Therapists, and a Physiotherapist, with support from Rehabilitation Assistants and Assistant Psychologists.
The service is based at Isebrook Hospital, Wellingborough, but appointments are held within service users' homes, places of work or recreation, and other community settings; the role will require frequent travel throughout Northamptonshire and access to use of a car for work is essential. Some degree of agile working will also be possible within the role if desired.
Main duties of the job
The main duties of the job include working autonomously to provide specialist assessments, develop individualised rehabilitation plans, and monitor progress within therapy, adjusting plans as required. Many service users may have complex presentations; excellent analytical skills and the ability to consult scientific literature and professional guidelines to inform evidence-based practice will be essential.
In order to provide the best possible treatment, you will liaise with family members, paid carers, other health professionals, and third sector organisations, requiring excellent spoken and written communication skills and an ability to develop effective working relationships with different types of people and organisations.
You will be responsible for delegation to and supervision of junior therapy team members, demonstrating a commitment to supporting their ongoing development and embodying compassionate leadership principles.
You will be a core member of the team, where your contribution to the ongoing development of our service through participation in regular team development days, project work, and continued professional development will be actively sought and highly valued.
Most importantly, you will demonstrate a passion for Occupational Therapy and for applying this specifically to working with people affected by brain injury to provide the best possible care.
Working for our organisation
NHFT is an integrated primary care and mental health Trust, providing physical, mental health, and specialty services in both hospital settings and out in the community. Because we put the person at the centre of all we do, we focus on delivering care that is as easy to access as possible. This means many of our services can be provided at home, work, or in schools. We also provide health services to various prisons and detention centres in Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire.
